With or without spam? Over what period of time and in which groups?
It would be particularly interesting to know what proportion of the posts originating from Google are spam.

Binaries too? If so the numbers are very low.

Striking that more than half the 'posters' managed only one post!

I solve that problem by limiting each nym/nym·shifter to its last 30 and sorting by probability of encounter when traversing threads.

Depends whether you want to count 'how many people posting' or 'how many
posts'. Combining both stats gives an indication of what the prolific
posters tend to use, which might be an indication of what is the easiest
to post with (but possibly not what is most efficient to read with).

Subject: attention == dollars
Google is raking in the cash, and Google·Groups is part of that. Micro·Soft is richer than God, and NSN·TV contributed (I assume).
How do Astra·Web and Giga·News compare ? no one really knows.
I'm not tracking band·width (I can't, for one thing), I'm tracking who's drawing the most attention ( attention == dollars ).
Lately, in Alt.Free.Newsservers, it's been: [ Steve·@mixmin made only 21 posts in the last 1.65 months; since he started, he's averaged about one post a day.

Lol had nothing better to say. Anyway nice to see some different
statistics instead of what is currently presented as the top1000.

What is the source of these statistics? In a way it reminds me
of the statistics published at
http://www.newsadmin.com/postservice.asp
which are quite arbitr^Wselective, as they seem to ignore a considerable number of newsservers for unknown reasons. There have been 5539 postings from Eternal-September.org on 8/27/2009, for example, and aioe and many others are also missing from these statistics. Until one year ago these servers were included in the Newsadmin statistics and the daily list contained more than 100 newsservers whereas it now lists less than 40. I guess it's a matter of "There are three kind of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics".

Jeff is easy to killfile. Just kill on the nonstandard UTF Byte Order
Mark he always sticks in the Subject: line (and body) of all his

about it.

Do you have a regular expression that can match that? That seems to be the
only option for KNode.

Gisse's kill·file doesn't work; he cries ·whaaa·plonk·whaaa· everytime I post to Sci.Phyics.
Moroney looks at the charset specified in my header: Content-Type: Text/HTML; charset=UTF-8
then he looks at the UTF·8·signature in my “Subject:” line (U+FeFF): RFC 2781, a.k.a. “UTF-16, an encoding of ISO 10646”, section 3.2 says:
“ In particular, in UTF-16 plain text, it is likely, but not certain, that an initial 0xFEFF is a signature.
When concatenating two strings, it is important to strip out those signatures, because, otherwise, the resulting string may contain an unintended "ZERO WIDTH NON-BREAKING SPACE" at the connection point.
Also, some specifications mandate an initial 0xFEFF character in objects labelled as UTF-16 and specify that this signature is not part of the object. ”.
then he thinks to himself:
“ UTF+FeFF is white·space, same as ASCII 32 or U+00A0 (hard·space). <Windows.H>'s GetStringTypeW() tells me what's whitespace:
www.JeffRelf.F-M.FM/X.CPP LnP P = Funky - 1 ; GetStringTypeW( CT_CTYPE1, Funky, cnt·Props, BoProps ); Loop( cnt·Props ) if ( P++, !*++Prop || *Prop & C1_CNTRL ) wmemmove( P, P+1, --cnt·Real - ( P - Funky ) ), --P ; ”.
Then, naturally, he concludes: “ Jeff's header is in Windows·1252, I'll re·post that. ”.

Sorting by who/what·posted·the·most makes no sense.
Sorting by date makes sense, sorting by preferred·author makes sense, as does sorting by probability·of·encounter (traversing all threads).

I'm not familiar with KNode. What is the syntax to kill a certain string
in the Subject: line? Also, how KNode interprets Jeff's subject lines
affects things. Look at any of his posts. Do you see anything before the
plain text of his subjects? (" Lately, in Sci.Physics,.." for this
thread)? KNode may try to fix the subject (it does in your replies). If
so you'll see the RFC-2047 string "=?UTF-8?Q?=EF=BB=BF?=" or
"=?ISO-8859-1?Q?=EF=BB=BF?=" when viewing his post. Kill on that phrase.
Or it may try to interpret it as text, and it will appear as 3 characters,
likely an "i" with two dots/umlaut, a double greater-than sign and
upside-down question mark if interpreted as ISO-8859-1 or Windows-1252.
Kill on that 3 character string. Here it is, if it doesn't get mangled in
transit: //
These will kill some, but not all, replies to his posts as the various newsreaders mangle his subject line in a whole variety of different and interesting ways when people reply to him (not the newsreaders' fault. GIGO)
Or just kill on "Jeff_Relf" in the From: line.

[snip Jeff's mis-imagining my thought process]
Nope. I said it was nonstandard because:
1) it's not compliant with RFC-2047 (Header Extensions for Non-ASCII Text) 2) RFC-3977 (the NNTP spec, which you mistakenly believe is the Usenet post spec) says 'don't use the UTF-8 Byte Order Mark (U+FEFF)'.

Apparently you didn't notice that it was Eric Gisse's newsreader that
created that subject line, and I didn't feel like repeating your whine
about being killfiled by Eric you had in your last subject, so I simply
reused an old subject.
It's amusing how different newsreaders choke on your borken Subject: lines in different ways.
(and it's ISO-8859-1 encoded, not Windows-1252. Not that there's much difference, esp. since much web SW treats ISO-8859-1 as Windows-1252)
p.s. Eric, I told you he'd whine about being killfiled.

Subject: Eric Gisse cries ·whaaa·plonk·whaaa· everytime I post to Sci.Phyics.
First lame·Moroney thinks my “Subject:” line is Windows·1252 encoded, repeating his mistake over and over agian, then he talks to Eric like he was here, reading “Alt.Free.Newsservers”.

No, I think your br0ken Subject: line looks better this way. I think I'll
keep it.

Eric asked a question of me (help to killfile your posts) and at the same
time set Followup-To: to alt.free.newsservers (no such group as
Alt.Free.Newsservers BTW). I assumed he followed that group or at minimum
this thread, so I respected his followup, as this thread doesn't belong in
sci.physics. (It's off topic to alt.free.newsservers as well, but I
digress) Either he's following this or it's he that is being lame by
asking a question and setting Followup-To: to a group he doesn't read.
And, of course, you being lame just by being you.
