Hello,

I have been using Painter 7 on a G4 but recently I got Painter 8,
after install the application on the same computer, Painter 8 opened
well and seems like everything was working fine but I discovered that I
can't paint... yep, sounds silly but "I can't paint" with the new
version, after that, I installed the same Painter 8 in an older
computer under the OS9 to see what happened and Painter 8 works fine
there.

What can be wrong?

I'm still continue having the Painter 7 installed on my G4 not sure if
It is causing some conflict with the new Painter 8.

I'm not an expert on Painter so any help is welcome, my
computer is a G4 and I use a Wacom for paint.

Thanks for your time,

Joe

This may not actually help you, but for what it's worth my wife has both
Painter 7 and Painter 8 installed on her G4, and both work just fine.
(Although once she made the adjustment to Painter 8 she hasn't had any
desire to go back and we probably ought to free up the space Painter 7 is
wasting on the disk.)

Now, first, what do you mean by "can't paint"? Do you mean that you can draw
lines but aren't getting pressure sensitivity? Does Painter 7 still work
correctly under your Mac OS X setup? If not, then it's likely that your
Wacom driver is busted, and you should grab the latest and reinstall. (In
fact, try that anyway just to be sure you've GOT the latest.)

What OS version do you have? If you installed the original 10.2.8 update and
haven't gotten the revised update, and you're on an older G4, it's
conceivable that running software update and installing the revised 10.2.8
patch (which is small) will help. I never heard of any problems with USB,
Wacom, or Painter; but old G4s DID have some problems with the original
10.2.8. (I still haven't put 10.2.8 on my wife's G4 450/AGP, and I'll
probably just wait for 10.3 at this point.)

Since you're able to use Painter 8 as you expect with the same system under
OS9, I'll assume it's not something obvious like a loose USB connection.
However, Painter does have lots of brush behavior controls, and it's
possible that you could have gotten pressure sensitivity disabled in your
Painter 8. You might even want to try locating the Painter 8 preference
file (in your home directory's <name>/Library/Preferences folder) and move
it out onto the desktop to see what happens. (Although Painter keeps a lot
of setup in the Painter application folder and this might not help.)

That is true, I was planning to erase Painter 7 but after see if the
new Painter8 could be working fine but my surprise was that it wasn't,
I mean, maybe it is fine but something on my system is not ok, so I
decided wait a little before erase Painter 7...

Yes, I can paint, for example I create a new canvas or open a file
and I can't paint over it, I have try changing colors, pressure and
brush size but nothing, I canšt do a stroke.

I also have try to use different media, I went from Acrylics to the
Airbrushes, Artist, Blenders etc, etc but nothing, not a single stroke.

At lease my mouse is working with the new Painter 8 so, not everything
is lost.

Yes, I will do that because my Wacom Intuos works fine but maybe
for this new version of Painter I need to get a new one... I can use
my Wacom Pen and Mouse to click everywhere on Painter 8, it
doesnšt work only when I try to paint something.

It is very strange... My older computer have a older Wacom tablet
and I can paint there with this new version of painter, hmmm...

I have a Dual 1 GHz Power PC G4 running the OSX 10.2.6 Jaguar
I will try to get that patch you said and update my system too.

I already check those wires and everything is fine.

Well, I need to find the OSX patch and the latest Wacom driver
and see what happen... maybe that will solve the problem.

I will let you later... thanks again for take you time in
