I installed Painter 6 with patch and new Wacom drivers. It seems that I
have to touch paint with the mouse then pickup the pen in order for the
paint to respond without a long delay. Is this normal for now ?

Is their anyway to move objects or reposition, a move tool ?

Also is their any good printed learning resources as I hate to toggle
between the tutorial and the program. I don't really want to print out
the tutorial.

Hi Glenn, playing with your new birthday toy I see! I don't have to use the
mouse at all, in fact I fire up Painter pen in hand and start a new image
and start painting, there's no delay that I see.

As for a move tool, it works on the layers, and it's the little pointing
hand that doesn't have the selection box (might be under the arrow) called
the Layer Adjuster. You can click on that button and hold down if the one
with the selection box or the arrow is on top and you'll see the other
choices for that tool. If you want the Layer Adjuster tool to work like
Paint Shop Pro or such, be sure and check the little box in the Controls
Adjuster palette that says Auto Select Layer. That will let you grab images
from any layer just by clicking on it with that tool. Otherwise, it only
moves stuff on the current layer. Tip: When you have the Layer Adjuster
Tool in use, hold the alt key down and click on the layer image to make a
duplicate layer - I do that a lot. ;-)

I can't name a good book on Painter 6 because I haven't been out looking for
one. Folks here will probably clue you in to the best sources, I'll really
not that savvy on Painter.

Hi Glenn..
Not so sure about the paint delay, but to move objects, look at the tool
palette and choose the pointing hand...it will move layers of every
kind..hope that is what you mean?

People on the Painter list were a little upset about the tutorial being in
PDF, too, but that is the way it is.

Under the floater mover tool, there is also a selection mover, resizer tool
and another tool as well. those little icons on the tool palette with a a
small dark corner at the lower left have tools hidden underneath. just pop
them open on the little triangle.

(snip, snip, snip)

I have the Viper 550 also and though I've had no troubles since applying the
patch, I do get these horrible black and white lines in my images when
making a selection. If I use the "hide the marque" option the lines go away.
I'm at 1024x768 (16 bpp). Change resolution? Install newer drivers? Is this
a problem with others? Using Windows 98, PII 350 w/ 128 ram.

The horror...I install my painter at my other machine at work. Same
thing with the Wacom. I have a USB PenPartner on that one, still have to
click the mouse once to get the pen to respond right.

Well, that's a new problem to me although I did run into the tablet mapping
being off when I changed resolution. Wacom has a beta driver out that fixes
a problem with the pen's mapping being off a bit when you change resolutions
and the mouse feel. Maybe that will help you too, I haven't installed it
yet because I rarely change resolution but guess I'll go download it when
it's out of beta. Other than that, make sure your video drivers are current.

I had to move from Diamond drivers to the Nvidia Detonator drivers for my
Viper550 to get rid of the watercolor brush crashes I had, which appears to
be cured having no crashes in 17 days using water color brushes. Not that
Painter hasn't crashed at all in that time, just not using water color
brushes - did crash using a water color cloner once, and another cloner tool
once too but it's not repeatable.

Hello Diana
The work machine has a viper in it 300 maybe, it's an older one when the
233PII was released. Home, I'm using a G200 Matrox. I rarely change
resolution. I loaded the beta Wacom drivers for here at home using a
6x8 pad.

That problem another person had and someone here told them to go get those
Nvidia Detonator drivers to fix it and it did. That's what gave me the idea
to try them for my water color brush problem. I'm using them, very nice
drivers, Painter is a lot more stable with them.

Sorry to be a pain, what driver did you use? There are three or four
detonater files on the nVidia site. Also, do i unisntall the Diamond "In
control" tools and does the nvidia drivers have their own control panel?
This sounds like a good solution, just wanna be safe than sorry. :)
Thanx,
Shad

I downloaded the ones for RIVA TNT/RIVA TNT2/NVIDIA Vanta

Detonator 353 Win 9X AGP/PCI Detonator353W9X.exe 10/19/99 2334 KB

You get some tabs in advanced settings area of your display properties to
set opengl and color settings, an option to set a quicktweak icon in the
task bar etc.
