We have just put up a tutorial by Jeanie on painting pastel portraits in
Painter.

We have tried to cover the aesthetic and painterly aspects as well as the
management of the software. Let us know what you think (on or off list).
It is part of a nearly completed book on starting art on the computer.
Visit it at:
http://www.minstead.swinternet.co.uk/pastut1.html

Looking forward to your comments.
Nick & Jeanie Mellersh

PS Hope some of you will try it and post the results!

Lots of broken image links. Image size tags are being used to resize images on
the page rather than facilitate faster page display. (Which might work ok
since the images are reused on subsequent pages--if the users' cache is large
enough.) Pages are often larger than my current 800x600 screensize, but
horozontal scrolling has been blocked.

I like how the article shows detailed steps. Too often lots of details are
left out. ("And then I added the hair. And then...")

Wow!

Thanks for posting your "pastel": tutorial. I have searched local libraries
for books on painting digital portraits and have found little. Your
tutorial is along the lines of what I have been looking for. I hope you
don't mind that I copied all seven pages so that I can study them offline.

Thanks again
