Hi I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is any difference
between corel's Painter 7 and procreate's? I just bought one on line (the
upgrade) and bought a Corel version one. But I see the description for
Procreates is very different. i want to make sure they are the same. Does
anyone know?
Thanks
Stacey

Stacey,

I'm not sure what each contains. Not sure what you meant by "Corel
version 1", either. The first release of Painter 7 was a while back..
can't recall the date at the moment. Later, in December 2001 the Painter
7 Update package (patch and accompanying other files) was released.
Installing that brought Painter 7 up to version 7.1.357.

There is a difference in that some bugs were fixed in the Painter 7
Update and (can't recall now) there may have been a few new features. In
any case, it's good to have Painter 7 Update version 7.1.357 and if it's
not already included in the software, let me know and I'll send you the
list of direct URLs to download all of the files (the Procreate main
site is a pain to deal with.. that's why I put the list of direct URLs
together). You'll also need to be careful to follow the installation
instructions exactly, to avoid problems.

If you want a more reliable answer about the differences, I'd suggest
calling Corel Corporation at 1-800-772-6735 (in the U.S.) and asking for
Procreate Painter Customer Support.

Good luck, :o)

Hey thanks for the info. i guess I was just wondering b/c on the site I
bought it from they have one listed under Corel and one listed under
Procreate and 2 different prices but the boxes look the same and the
descriptions are different. the procreate one really emphasizes the
watercolors and the Corel one doesn't even mention them hardley. So I was
just worried that there might be a difference. did Corel release the irst
one and THEN Procreate too k over? I really would appreciate the list of
URL'S thanks........... I haven't gotten it yet they just shipped it. but I
LOVED the demo. thanks for your help.

Well there's only one Painter 7. I think what you're running into is a simple
lack of organization on Corel/Procreate's part. Corel bought Painter from
MetaCreations. Later, it formed this Procreate division to handle Painter. But
it's all the same company. So it sounds like whoever's in charge of marketing
for Procreate rewrote their stuff without letting Corel know and without Corel
following up with Procreate.

Happy to help.

2 different prices at the same site? That's awfully odd. Go for the cheaper one
;-)

Stacey,

Again, I think you'd do well to call Procreate via the Corel Corporation
1-800 number I gave you in my previous message. They should be able to
tell you what, if any, differences there are.

Here's the list of direct URLs:

Jin, do you doubt me? lol

Anyway, I took the matter to the top and asked the Painter program manager
Tanya Staples for a ruling in the matter <g>.

Here's her reply:

Hi Karen,

I took a look at the procreate site and the Corel Web site and the information
is the same (the Corel site links to the procreate site). Do you have the exact
links where this person was looking? If so, I'll take a look at them and let
you know.

Cheers!

Karen,

Didn't think about doubting you.

??

Obviously we don't know the answer. Hopefully someone at Corel/Procreate
will know how come here are two prices and what, if any, differences
there are. I, too, doubt there are differences in the software, unless
it might be that the later version has the Painter 7 Update included..
or something along those lines.

Price should be the same, though, and if they're advertising two prices,
I believe they're legally obliged to sell at the lower price if the
customer wants it. Not sure how that works outside of the U.S. or even
if it's true all over the U.S. but I've heard it's true where I live..
and have demanded the lower price a couple of times.. and gotten it.

Jin,

Read the rest of my message, quoted below. Tanya says there is no difference in
prices at the web site. Stacey will have to let us know where she saw what she
saw.

Karen,

Yep, I read the whole message the first time around, and again today. It
makes sense that there wouldn't be two prices, but if someone saw two,
then something's strange about that.

Maybe we'll find out.. maybe not. In any case, I hope your day is super!

Hi.this is Stacey again..i got my Painter upgrade and the box says it is
from Procreate so I'm guessing that they just messed up on the site i bought
it from. the price difference was only a few dollars.no big deal it was the
differences in the descriptions that confused me. sorry for the confusion. I
LOVE Painter 7 by the way! I am really looking forward to learning the ins
and outs. thanks for all the help.
