pork ribs, skin on, deep fried?

Following a thread in another NG about skin on pork ribs, it was mentioned
that there is a Mexican preparation of skin on pork ribs which are deep
fried. I've never heard of this, and I don't know what the correct name is
for this dish. Can someone enlighten me?

I remember that Cubans roast pork with the skin on, but I've forgotten
the name of
the recipe...

I told a Mexican woman at work about it and she thought that the idea
was disgusting...

But if the skin was peeled off and fried separately it would be called
"chicharron"
in Mexico...
