There are many reasons why we may want cooking light recipes. We want
our families to eat better, we wish to lose weight or just want a
better lifestyle. Many light meals can be tasty - and when we prepare
them at home, we have better control over the flavor. There are many
ways we can eat to feel full without extra needless calories and with
health in mind.
First off, it's always beneficial to have breakfast. A lot of us skip
breakfast because we're too busy or just don't have the appetite in
the morning. But we require the energy to start the day and so we
don't become ravenous around lunchtime. If we get hunger pains when
we're busy, we're more likely to eat more then we require or things
with high fat and calories without really thinking about it.
Here are a few tips for cooking and eating light throughout the day:
Try fish or chicken instead of fat laden red meats.
Instead of frying, try grilling. Grilling uses much less oil. And
instead of boiling, try steaming. Steaming retains many more nutrients
in food, whereas boiling leaches out the vitamins and minerals.
There's lots of spices, herbs and flavors that can be used for cooking
light recipes to add a lot of flavor without adding fat or calories.
Lemon juice, fresh herbs, paprika, chilies, cinnamon, are to name a
few.
Find and think up recipes that use your favorite food. Eating healthy
shouldn't make you feel like you're deprived of anything, or you're
less likely to keep up with it. So take what you like and learn ways
to prepare it that are better for you.
If you have a sweet tooth, have lots of fruit around for a healthy
snack. Make healthy fruit desserts like with yoghurt and granola, low-
fat cottage cheese, fruit salad, or broiled fruit with cinnamon and
vanilla.
Instead of oil or butter, use cooking sprays. Cooking sprays add much
less fat to the pan.
Try cooking light recipes in different types of cuisine: Southwestern,
Mediterranean, East Indian, Asian, etc. You can find many healthy
recipes of these kinds to prepare. And variety helps spice up or diet
and keep it interesting.
Try vegetarian recipes. Vegetarian dishes can be low fat, low calorie
and still taste great. This doesn't have to mean all tofu dishes,
although tofu is a great low fat meat alternative. Beans, nuts,
lentils, or just a good variety of vegetables and starch can make for
delicious light meals. Try dishes like stir-fry, fajitas, chili, and
lasagna all without meat.
Above all, watch your serving sizes. Many of us eat more in a sitting
then we actually need, or want, for that matter. Pay attention to your
hunger. Also, take into consideration if your day is high in activity.
If it's an activity laden day, you may want to increase your meal size
a bit to give yourself a boost of energy.
Kudos to you and your new healthier, light cooking lifestyle! Follow
your tastes, find plenty of recipes , and you will find yourself
feeling better and having more energy very quickly. Good information
may save lives.
