I hope you have heard of http://www.felinediabetes.com/
which is one of the great support groups on the internet.
Ferguson and I were there in the early '90s, and learned
all we needed to know about the whole diabetes nightmare.
In fact, I found out that I was becoming diabetic by sticking
myself instead of her (very easy to do) and taking readings
on my blood just for the hell of it. Yeah.

That sounds like a wonderful set of results so far. Best luck.

On the ear, trying to pierce that tiny little vein that runs the
circumfrence. I ended up with my left finger behind the vein
and trying to poke it *very gently* with the lancette in my
right hand. Delicate work. I was fortunate in that Ferguson
decided to tolerate the entire procedure, rarely rebelled
at the piercing and then the injecting indignities. It is not
funny to see your cat running away from you with a lancette
in her ear. Well, it is funny, but you can't show it.

If you take a little flashlight and hold it behind Freddy's ear
you should be able to see the vein. That is step 1. I did a lot
of rubbing and cuddling Ferguson's ear which seemed to
let her tolerate its being touched somewhat better. That is
step 2.

I would really urge you to look at the feline diabetes website.
It is well-run and has a very active forum on all of the complexities
of treating and dealing with the poor little animals. And it goes
all the way from first signs of diabetes through (sigh) the Rainbow
Bridge. Ferguson's picture is there somewhere.

Thanks for the memories, my eyes are teary right now. Ask more
if you wish, I can go on for hours. You are entering quite an
experience.

That's great news Susan, kudos to you for your care of Freddie. I know he'll
beglad to come off the insulin too. :-)

Speaking for myself, I was constantly starving when I was on Lantus for the
couple of months that I used it. I would think it would matter for Freddie's
appetite too.
