The Search for Coke in Bottles

Okay, here's the info I have. I've been away so I'm sure I missed some
recent postings on this; please feel free to help me add to my list.

FLASH! As I'm typing this, the bottlers in the Bay Area (well at least
the East Bay) are running a promotion of 8oz Coke Classic with the local
football teams "Best of the Bay Area" logos or those of classic cars
"Hot August Nights". I've found these in Lucky's grocery store.

Meanwhile, in the Los Angeles area, most Hughes markets are providing a
small supply of Coke Classic in 8oz bottles. Prices are a very high
$2.99 a six-pack.

Also, the Price Club in Orange County apparently has the 8oz'ers by the
case. No word on the cost.

The only other source I have locally here in California is the bottler
in Sacramento. Apparently they will sell you a case of Coke in 6oz or 8oz
bottles, if you provide them with a case of empties (No, it's not a direct
swap, you pay for the Coke, too!). They're doing this to make sure they
maintain their supply of old Green-bottle glass.

Any others? I'll even maintain a FAQ of this info if desired....

At a Pick'n'Save store in Lake Geneva, WI, I found promotional
six-packs of Classic Coke in 8 oz non-returnables. The price
was high, of course, somewhere around $2.49.

Needless to say, I stocked up.

We really should put together a FAQ for this newsgroup, with the
"Sugar in Coke" topic being #1: this seems to resurface every
6 months.

Anyway, in many countries outside the USA (Mexico, Germany,
Switzerland, and the UK among others), the bottled Real Thing (TM) is
made with sugar, while in the USA, many bottlers use
High Fructose Corn Syrup as the primary sweetner.

There are some bottlers in the USA who, through some means,
still bottle Coca-Cola formulated with sugar. These bottlers
seem to be the exception, not the rule.

During Passover, some USA bottlers brew up Coca-Cola that's
labeled as "Kosher." This stuff is made with sugar. (In Chicago,
this is available at most of the larger grocery stores, with
the word "Kosher" ink-jetted on the label, can, bottlecap, or
24-can box.) It's usually only available for the few weeks
before and after the holiday.

Yes! They sell the 8oz. bottles here in Bakersfield, CA. for about
$2.50 a 6-pack.
