What is the best way to attach a whole lamb, approx 50 lbs, to the rod
of a spit so that as it rotates and cooks it does not break apart and
fall into the coals?

Use a spit rod with holes drilled through in stategic spots. Use
bailing wire. Pass it through the thigh, the rod the other thigh, and
fold the legs and wrap. Same with the rib section. Same with the
shoulder and folded front legs.

If it's done properly, you'll have a little trouble identifying the
point at which it is done. Using a long tined(?) fork, pass it
between the thigh and body and pull it out. Touch the fork to your
inside wrist. If it burns your wrist, it's cooked.

Good advice... my rod doesn't have holes drilled thru it though :-(
