Earlier this month at the American Royal World Series of Barbecue Open, we won the potato category. Again! We not only repeated as winners, we repeated our perfect score from 2011. Plus I got 8th in sausage out of about 350 entries.
Thing is, Reser's was sponsoring a series of potato challenges at KCBS competitions throughout the year, plus they had an online recipe challenge. The winners of those competitions got invited to the World Food Championships! http://worldfoodchampionships.com/home
Originally we were to cook in a special side contest created by Reser's with 20 contestant winners competing for a $10k first prize. Then they expanded our invitation to also include an invite to the World Side Dish Championships with a $25k total prize purse, one of the featured comps at the WFC. We're competing twice for the big money!
So we're off to Vegas later this week to compete in both. Hopefully I'll be posting some good news next week!

Congratulations. Good luck in Vegas. Resers needs a better potato salad recipe, IMO. Maybe you can help them out...

They do have a lot of recipes, some of which are regional. I like one quite a bit :-)

Heh... Yeah, sorry dude, I got it and I'm still going to answer it. ;-) I wanted to give some more thought to your response. And we had to get some stuff cleared up with the competition people. This is the inaugural year for it and they are still making up their minds about some stuff. However as they have made up their minds several things have fortunately gotten easier for us.
But yeah, the potato dish goes up for the Reser's comp on Friday . It goes up for the first round of the World Side Dish Championship on Saturday as well. If we make it to the second round, then we have to enter a dish which uses Philadelphia Cream Cheese.
If we go so far as to win the Side Dish Championship, we would go to a final table on Sunday where the winners of all the major categories compete for the Grand Championship.

Well, that is a point. Somebody with some killer burnt ends will probably take the grand prize. I just hope it's my buds who are cooking in the Q comp, Nickle Boys.
However if you look at the various competitions, it includes a pro chef competition, the World Chef Challenge, and those guys are going to go all iron chef on each other. So it's going to take some stepping to beat the winner of that one.
