Those of us who were at AFU NYC a few eons back may recall
Charles Dimmick telling us the reason why there were places
without skyscrapers...

I thought of that when I found

I didn't exactly forget: the SSSW [TM] got me again.
I remember you said the bedrock was Manhattan Schist. The short
buildings would be on, my guess, I don't recall what you said, mud and
sand. For a source of sediment, there is the Hudson river.
