Everybody, int eh united states at least, has hear the jingle bells parody
"jingle bells, batman smell". Most have heard seveal versions. My question is,
are there ANY stories relating to the origin of the song?

Yes. I made it up as a kid. I'm pretty happy about how well it has done
here in North America, although in Europe it hasn't done nearly as well as my #1
hit, "Whistle while you work / Hitler is a jerk."

Thankfully, it hasn't caused me any legal problems. Many of you probably
remember the groundless law suit trying to link a rash of child deaths to my 1952
smash, "suffocation, takes coordination / suffocation, a game we all can play."
And I still haven't recovered the costs in my copyright infringement suit against
the creators of "the Addams Family" for using a parody of my top-selling single,
"The Addams Family started / when Uncle Fester farted" as their theme.

Listen for my latest single at a playground near you.

Did you also write "Comet, It Makes Your Mouth Turn Green"?
What about "Greasy Grimey Gopher Guts"?

Did you also write "Comet, It Makes Your Mouth Turn Green"?

Well at least that can be traced to the age of TV ads (probably) and the movie
Bridge over River Kwai, around 1957 or so (the tune may have pre-existed.

Whistle while you work/hitler is a jerk needed at least WWII and the Seven
Dwarves to push that notion.

But did Jingle Bells, Batman Smells predate the Batman TV series? Kids used to
actually read comic books back then.

It did. A recent thread on soc.history.world-war-ii discussed the Colonel
Bogey march at length. The March preceded the war, but the war spawned a
new set of lyrics regarding Nazi leaders and genitals.

I don't see us getting closer to folkloric content here though. Did someone
hear the "revised" lyrics and do something funny which a friend told to a
FOAF?

Its certainly folkloric enough its just not terribly UL-ish.

I imagine if you wanted to create an UL you could say the playground songs were
total fabrications of Matt Groening who had stolen them from Tracy Ullman, who
was a child star who sang all of Patti Pages hits.

They pre-existed of course

How about -- also to the tune; "Col Bogey March"

"Bullshit, It makes the grass grow green, Bullshit, It makes the grass grow
tall" ---- and so forth ( which means I don't know the rest).
