While I have read the news article and am appalled, I have a question:

If it's not an urban legend, then why did you post it here? This isn't
alt. boycott-anything, y' know.

If true, it is surely a heinous act. I found it interesting that the
article used the word "murder" in relation both to the bear and to
"Bambi". All definitions of "murder" that I am aware of limit it to
the intentional killing of another human being.

Definitely not. But many a false story or urban legend (some of them
with a call for boycotts or protests thrown in) begins with "This is a
true story, not a UL," and vetting those is a venerable and possibly
useful function of the newsgroup. Sometimes I even wonder if
posting them here is evidence of one's subconscious asking, albeit
usually a bit late, whether it's really so...

Unfortunately, reports in the mainstream news media say that this one
may be true. At least, federal prosecutors are making that allegation.
(Gentry's attorney begs to differ.)
