I first read about her in Sifakis' Hoaxes and Scams, and
it just occurred to me the story itself maybe is a show
business legend, and not true. Somehow the story of
"Sober Sue" occurred to me while reading Usenet.

"The Girl Who Would Not Laugh" is a recurring theme in fairy tales.
- "The Princess Who Never Smiled"
- "The Golden Goose"
- "The Magic Swan"
- "Peruonto"
- The framing story in "The Pentamerone"
All of the above examples are princess with large rewards and promises
of marriage involved... but it's the first thing the story made me
think of.

And I thought of the 70s version of the game show "Make Me Laugh", the
incarnation that had people like Gallagher, Yakov Smirnoff and Bruce Baum....r

I saw the Frank Zappa episode of this - He never flinched while being
subjected to incredible inanity.
Amazing control.
