If you believe this, you need to check out alt.folklore.urban for the
truth.

This legend is at least two years old.

Have you actually heard this legend that long ago?
As far as I know, it was started in Chicago only
a few weeks ago. We'd love to know if it's been around
longer than that.

Make that a few weeks ago.

That flashing headlights UL came through Utah this weekend. This was the first
time I have ever heard it! (The cops took it seriously, too! Even after the
5:00 o'clock news announced that this time it was started by some joker in
San Diego (?), the police were still warning people to avoid pissing off some
gang members and not flash lights to alert motorists to their headlights, etc.

I couldn't believe it when I heard it, since I never thought the little ba....ds
needed a reason to kill people...

What does a street gang do in Utah? Hold up convenience stores
by threatening to spray everybody with caffeinated soda pop?
Lace crickets with Alka-Seltzer and feed them to the seagulls?
Hang out next to the schoolyard and tell kids about the existence
of Nevada? Drive-by worship?

I think the term is "turds and slime", not "bastards".

According to my lousy memory, this was first brought up a couple of
months ago, and the person who posted asked if it was an old or new
legend. Then it snowballed.

The two recent gang-related ULs I recall were the female gang
HIV initiation one and the abduction of a child/cutting off of
his willie in a shopping mall restroom (update of an oldie).

Maybe Jennifer is adding her own folklore embellishment on the
debunking side.

San Diego? Furrfu - it only _reached_ San Diego a few days ago! It got
a nice debunking on Page 2 of the Newspaper, too.

ObUL: the word "bastards" is illegal in Utah.

Time is different in Texas from the rest of the world, too. For the
rest of us it's been less than a month.

I'm never sure whether to respond in AFU to postings from a user named
'guppy'.
