Subject: SUPER BOWL TO GET REALLY $UPER NEXT SEASON
<
     INDIANAPOLIS (Rueters) -- Say
goodbye to the Super Bowl as we
know it.
<
     At a special meeting yesterday,
the NFL franchise owners unanimously
agreed to change its official name to
the Multi-Millionaires $uper Bowl.

That's because just about player in
the Big Game is a millionaire-plus
(except for the officials and, obviously,
the water boys).

"We finally decided to call it what
it is," one delighted owner told ESPN's
Keith Olbermann
<
This kind of name change could not
possibly have been done decades ago.
<
Many football fans -- some of whom
will slowly be getting drunk watching
the New York Giants upset the New
England Patriots -- will well remember
good ol' Concrete Charlie.
<
It was the revered nickname of
Charles "Chuck" Bednarik, an NFL
All-Star if there ever was one and
who remarkably played both offense
AND defense -- for the Eagles
from 1949 to 1962.
<
He was the last two-way player in
NFL history.

<
Bednarik was one of the game's
most devastating tacklers -- just ask
Frank Gifford -- and, upon his retirement,
was  immediately inducted into the
Pro Football Hall of Fame.

<
I hope you're sitting when you read
this because you may be shocked to
learn that Bednarik's highest salary
-- $22,000 -- came in his final season.

     One year his contract stipulated
that he would receive a $1,000 bonus
"if he has a good year and plays both
offense and defense."

Father Guido Sarducci, NFL chaplain, shows the paparazzi
how much more he feels Chuck Bednarik should've been paid.
