Hi everybody,
I have an IBM laptop that has the following problem: Every windows
application flickers/flashes exactly once every 60sec. The level of flickering
is different depending on the window. The least noticeable one
happens on desktop (the whole LCD), it's worse when you open "My
Computer", "My Documents" or "My Network Places", and the worst in
Internet Explorer and in any Office program (Word, Excell, PPoint etc.)

It doesn't happen in SSH or in Mozilla for example. So it looks like a
problem with Win 2000 Pro itself but I was not able resolve this problem
at all, since I have a very limited computer background.

I'll appreciate any suggestions if you encounter the same problem or if
you know anything about this.

Thanks,
Ekrem

We used to see something like that with Charactron displays. Does
your laptop have a Charactron?

I don't know If have a Charactron display since I don't know what it is.
But do you remember if you were able to resolve the problem anyhow?

it might be caused by an application that's polling every 60 sec. such as a
motherboard /cpu monitoring app.

Probably trying to access the card reader.
Try inserting an 80 column card into any suitable slot
and see if it cures the problem.

Have you tried connecting an external monitor to the laptop, and if
so, does the flickering appear there as well?

Perhaps you mean:

"Do *not* try this it home...
it should only be done by professional idiots."

Just as a really wild guess. I would suggest that you have someone check into
the current screen refresh rates that are set for your laptop. Seems to me
that they need some adjustments.

Good luck!

Hi Ekrem:
I would try getting the latest win2k video driver for that laptop. IBM has a
pretty good download site so you will be able to find the latest driver. I
suspect that your problem is essentially a video driver issue or a physical
conflict in the system. Did the machine ever run win98 and you upgraded to win2k?
We've had video problems before when upgrading to win2k. The system is pretty
stable moreso than win98 but at least in 98 it crashed and forced you to restart.
