I hope you are all in good spirits, doing well & doing good.

This is a bit off topic, but it seems to me that the knowledgeable
participants in this newsgroup are likely to have an answer to
this....

What I want to do is this: I would like to run an *automated* virus
scan on a specific folder/directory on my system once every six
hours. In theory, this should be a rather quick scan. (This is a
Windows system.)

Doesn't seem that this should be so hard, but I haven't figured out a
way to do it.

Now, I'm NOT talking about right-clicking a folder and running a scan
on it manually. This is what I have to do right now, in absence of an
automatic process. Rather, I want the whole thing to run without my
continuing participation -- set it and forget it.

I've tried to accomplish this with Sophos Antivirus (paid version,
paid by my employer for work and home); I've tried with Malwarebytes
Anti-Malware; and I've tried with Avira Free Version. (Sophos claims
it can do this, but when I follow the recipe, it starts running a scan
on my entire system, takes many hours.)

Any pointers you might have are most appreciated. My thanks in
advance! Of course, I'd prefer a freeware solution, but I'm willing
to pay for a product that will do this.

Best wishes to all....

Install cygwin, use cron.

No, I have no idea if Windows has a tool to do this.
Never use it.

With the 1000s of Windows forums that exist to answer this question,
why come here?

Hi,

I use AVAST free anti-blackmail-virus scanner.

Just checked the settings - I could add a CUSTOM SCAN of a specified
folder scheduled DAILY at given time HH:MM.

Then I added a second CUSTOM SCAN...you would need four I guess.

I use AVG, also free, and it has the same options.

Thank you very much, Carl, Nick, & Dan! (Dan, I think Carl & Nick
effectively answered your question....)

Best wishes all....

Very few of which have much activity or knowledgeable users now...

See above.

[Reposted after a 441 error]

Windows XP (maybe other flavours also) has "Scheduled Tasks"
under Accessories/System Tools.
