FRANKFORT — A Grant County lake will remain closed through Feb. 16
while the state works to try to get rid of gizzard shad, a species
that is making it harder for other fish to grow in the lake.
Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife fisheries biologists plan to
spray the 96-acre Corinth Lake in Grant County with a chemical to
eliminate the gizzard shad and will close the lake as a precaution.
Poor weather conditions required officials to delay the spraying that
was originally scheduled this week.
The agency says it has performed similar shad removal projects during
the past 20 years at several small lakes, including Beaver, Elmer
Davis and McNeely and that the chemical isn’t harmful to humans,
wildlife or pets.
