I will never show my face in public again!!! And now I am gonna tackle
the operation of a digital camera. And as it looks right now....I'm
gonna have to read the structions on this gadget also. This is a Nikon
5600.....and I dont even remember why I bought the $%#^& thing!!! But
I'll tell ya this. IF I do figger out how to work this
thing.....and......if I can figger out how to get the pictures on the
puter.....and then from my puter to the web........then you're gonna
see a whole bunch of pictures. Pictures of Dogs, cats, trees, cars,
buildings, squirrels, chipmunks, possums, birds, and anything else I
feel like taking a picture of.
That is.....IF........I can figger out what all these buttons and
switches are for. I made great progress today. I got the batteries
installed and I figgered out how to turn it on and off. At this
rate...I shall have some pics to post in 2009.

Oh! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! You MUST allow at least a full week of
screwing around with ANYTHING before even touching the directions.
Heavens, man! What came over you? What is this world coming to?

Eddie, Eddie, Eddie...here's a simple rule-of-thumb for new devices.
Check the gas and oil, prime the sucker and give the ol' starter rope a
big rippin' pull. If, after 3 or 4 mighty pulls, it still hasn't
started, it's a fishing weight. Pictures, dogs, cats...I dunno what
that's all about but if you hadn't wasted all that time bein' lame you
could'a been fishin' by now. Hell, you might even have caught
somethin' that's volunteer to eat them silly little swamp rats you took
in so you could afford a REAL dog. Happy Christmas, Jean-yus. ;-]
Wolfie, et al
Screw that shit!
Can you build a fire? Can you sharpen a knife? Can you shoot straight?

Yeah I know.........Lifes a bitch aint it!!?? The damn thing just had
me stumped and I lost my composure. This camera gonna be TOUGH. Its
got more bells and whistles than a new Mercedes. I just found out ya
dont have to put film in a digital camera. What'le they think of
next??
Eddie
Yeah Wolfie...ya talk tough in cyber space.......BUT......You wouldn't
say that to my dogs faces. These dogs will tear yer riding leathers
off ........half the leg them leathers is on ..... AND.......The seat
off that Vespa you call a motor sickle!! Bet ya cant wait to see all
the pictures when I fire this camera up.
BTW....Ya gotta put GAS in a camera???

First you have to load the program you got with the camera into the
computer. Then you take the wire with two end thingies which also came with
the camera and stick one end in the camera and the other in the computer. On
mine the computer end hole to stick it in is under a little screened, blue
oval door at the bottom front of the computer. Then you go into the program
you loaded and tell it where you want the pics sent to. Click on the
download....or is it upload...tab in the program and away go the pics from
the camera to your designated place in the computer. I hope this is clearer
than mud Eddie. ;-)

Well, the point is that the above (and similar) are manly things. Using
a TV remote is a sissy thing.

Then why do men always have to have control of the remote?
Joy
Speaking strictly as a male I can assure you it has nothing to do with
a woman's ability to operate the remote control. Women just need a
man's input in deciding what to watch. Controlling the remote control
is a physical manifestation of the basic nurturing instinct so
prevalent in the modern male, God love 'em.

Sigh...you're probably right Eddie. Could it be that I have met so few REAL
MEN in my life that I didn't recognize one when I didn't see him? So next
time you need advice keep an eye out for a message from a guy named Albany
Umblebee, Professor of Technalosophy from Harvard. That'll be me saving your
face...what's left of it that is. <G>

This thread has reminded me of the list of things a modern man should be
able to do, probably written by P.J. O'Rourke, but I can't find it. It
stirred me so I once printed it out and framed it for my grandboy's room.
I'd like to see it again. Does anyone know where it is?
Yeah P-bird.......It's in the hall closet on the top shelf......behind
that ugly hat you used to wear.
Eddie
I still wear it, but you shouldn't make fun of the English like that.
AAMOF, I have two wool tweed hats, one from England, one from Oregon - name
of Pendleton....

I use the Canon software for timed shots, I connect the camera to the
electricity power (battery would run out) then using the camera software
program to take a picture for example every 30 seconds. Directly through the
USB cable usually with laptop. (Remote shooting) I did this with a plant on
the windowsill in the sun, then made a GIF of the results. There are many
other timing/remote shooting possibilities using the Canon software.
I use Photoshop but teach students to use Infranview, mainly because it is
free.

I don't see any card-slots in the front of mine Gordon, but there's a little
oval door that flaps down where I can plug in the USB thingamajig. Slide
shows are kind of neat really. I'll have to check if my software does that.
I don't use it much because I prefer PS for diddling around with the prints.

I used my 25 y/o Pentax K1000 for Christmas photos ... a world-class manual
SLR. They stopped making it years ago, but it's worth now as much as it ever
was ... and it still takes marvelous pictures.
When I say manual I mean manual, I control everything. I could get more
creative with a manual. A friend has four of my photographs hanging in his
den...flowers shot through a piece of wavy shower door glass...they look
like impressionist paintings.
My photographer uncle reccomended it as a learner...I went on to buy 35mm
Canons and Nikons wot had bells and whistles, but always came back to my
Pentax. Never a repair either.

Those flower pictures sound lovely. I never really got into using a camera
and learning all the settings until I got this digital one. I'm still
learning with it but it's a challenge I like. :-) If I get another camera in
the future I'll look into the Pentax digital given what you and Joan have
said about it. I think that'll be a long time away though as I've yet to
master the one I've got.

A million years ago, I took pictures of the last Mille Miglia race held on
public roads in Italy. I had a tiny Minox camera that had 1/1000 of a
second shutter speed. I took pictures of sports cars passing at speeds near
200 mph. The pictures looked as though the cars were parked, except the
tires were perfectly round with no flat spot at the bottom. One of the
pictures was of Spanish Count Portago, and likely the last picture taken of
him alive. A few miles on he ran off into the crowd and killed 28 or so
people....
