Yes it is true. After struggling for 3 days to program a remote
control to run 4 different electronic machines......I had to resort to
reading the instructions. This was totally against my principals. Any
self respecting man SHOULD be able to assemble, program, fix, take
apart, put back together, and operate any device WITHOUT reading the
instructions.

I will never show my face in public again!!! And now I am gonna tackle
the operation of a digital camera. And as it looks right now....I'm
gonna have to read the structions on this gadget also. This is a Nikon
5600.....and I dont even remember why I bought the $%#^& thing!!! But
I'll tell ya this. IF I do figger out how to work this
thing.....and......if I can figger out how to get the pictures on the
puter.....and then from my puter to the web........then you're gonna
see a whole bunch of pictures. Pictures of Dogs, cats, trees, cars,
buildings, squirrels, chipmunks, possums, birds, and anything else I
feel like taking a picture of.

That is.....IF........I can figger out what all these buttons and
switches are for. I made great progress today. I got the batteries
installed and I figgered out how to turn it on and off. At this
rate...I shall have some pics to post in 2009.

Eddie, Eddie, Eddie...here's a simple rule-of-thumb for new devices.
Check the gas and oil, prime the sucker and give the ol' starter rope a
big rippin' pull. If, after 3 or 4 mighty pulls, it still hasn't
started, it's a fishing weight. Pictures, dogs, cats...I dunno what
that's all about but if you hadn't wasted all that time bein' lame you
could'a been fishin' by now. Hell, you might even have caught
somethin' that's volunteer to eat them silly little swamp rats you took
in so you could afford a REAL dog. Happy Christmas, Jean-yus. ;-]

Yeah I know.........Lifes a bitch aint it!!?? The damn thing just had
me stumped and I lost my composure. This camera gonna be TOUGH. Its
got more bells and whistles than a new Mercedes. I just found out ya
dont have to put film in a digital camera. What'le they think of
next??

Yeah Wolfie...ya talk tough in cyber space.......BUT......You wouldn't
say that to my dogs faces. These dogs will tear yer riding leathers
off ........half the leg them leathers is on ..... AND.......The seat
off that Vespa you call a motor sickle!! Bet ya cant wait to see all
the pictures when I fire this camera up.

If you camera has Blootooth installed, it will tell you in the manual if it
has, you buy a computer Bluetooth connection and install it onto your
computer as you would install any program.
Then you take a picture or ten, and click on your camera SEND with
Bluetooth. You manual will tell you how. You then turn on your computer, go
to the installed Bluetooth and select......you guessed it... 'RECEIVE with
Bluetooth'. Then you walk away and wait, ten seconds later your pictures
will go through space without any connecting wire onto your computer.
I take my laptop to parties (with Bluetooth installed), turn it onto
receive, then take pictures of the best looking women in the room, click
send, then invite them to look at my Laptop two rooms away, and show them
there photos, without using a safety net. The results bring giggles to the
coolest chicks.
I not only read manuals I go onto specialist NGs to help me. But I am no
wimp, I am a Geek ;-)

generation. Some call us seniors.
And one thing I can tell you no one is "less gifted." I taught an 80 year
old lady to use MSN a week before Christmas so that she could talk to her
great-great granddaughter in Canada on Christmas day.
I owe Bob Shirk a mail about hyperlinking using a photo. Any silly bugger
can do anything on the computer, BUT only if they wish. If you ask your
grand kids to explain something they laugh, I don't. And that is the

While I DO preciate all the advice you folks is givin me in my endeavor
to take pitchers with this new fangled digital camera.............I am
not to the stage yet where I need to put the pitchers in the computer.

I JUST figgered out how ta turn da #@$%ing thing on. And I had to read
the manual to do THAT. So....I'm not quite ready for that real
techinal lingo. JD, Geno, and Jim.......Your insults have not gone
unnoticed. I NEVER forget an insult.

And SUZE.........Ya just dont get it do ya? NO REAL MAN is gonna take
structions from a wimmins. Even if yer RIGHT!!! I'm allready taking

Yes, it could be useful. However, the program I like best for basic image
editing is the free IrfanView, www.irfanview.com . It does an excellent job
and is very easy to learn. Also serves as an image viewer, you can see
thumbnails of a whole folder in various sizes. With the plugins it will
also play various sound files. I prefer not to have to get used to a new
program every time I get new hardware, am on my fourth digital camera, first
one purchased in December 1996. For more sophisticated editing I use
PhotoImpact, various version of which I have been using since PI3 came with
my scanner in '96. For the occasional greeting card I make I use PrintShop,
first version of PrintShop was a DOS version I had available at work before
I had my own computer. Guess I am stuck in a rut but most of the
competitive programs are very similar in what they will do but somewhat
different in interface, so it's just easier to stick with something that is
familiar. There is no reason that your HP software wouldn't work for images
from other cameras so if you like it there would be no reason to change if
you got a different camera.

Yes, I have trained Jimmy on my previous camera and he is really the only
one who uses it now. It does a fine job and the only reason I got the newer
Pentax was because of its small size. It fits nicely in my purse so I can
always have it with me and takes amazing pictures for its size. It has a 5x
optical zoom and takes 5 megapixel pictures.

I use the Canon software for timed shots, I connect the camera to the
electricity power (battery would run out) then using the camera software
program to take a picture for example every 30 seconds. Directly through the
USB cable usually with laptop. (Remote shooting) I did this with a plant on
the windowsill in the sun, then made a GIF of the results. There are many
other timing/remote shooting possibilities using the Canon software.
I use Photoshop but teach students to use Infranview, mainly because it is
free.

Why DO they make silver cameras?
I bought a silver digi camera and soon discovered the error when I tried
to shoot birds through the window, and got reflections.
Also they are too conspicuous for impromptu candid shots.
Black is the only serious colour for a camera.

I have card slots in the front of my PC which take the camera cards, and
that is also the easy way to get them in, but the software can help to
produce Slide Show CDs for the family.

That sounds like a great camera you have Joan. I remember Pentax from years
ago when my sis in law had a 35 mm....before digital. It took the best
pictures I'd ever seen that weren't professional.
I love the one I have too. It's an HP R607 Photosmart with 20 x zoom and
takes pictures at 4.1...though my husband says it is higher than that when
it's set a certain way so I dunno. There's still much for me to learn about
it regarding setting it for different situations and being aware of the
light conditions. This one also has video clips but I haven't tried that so
far. These digitals are so much fun, especially since you can just delete
any poor shots and carry on. :-) How come you don't take many pictures
anymore if that question is not being too nosy?

I used my 25 y/o Pentax K1000 for Christmas photos ... a world-class manual
SLR. They stopped making it years ago, but it's worth now as much as it ever
was ... and it still takes marvelous pictures.

When I say manual I mean manual, I control everything. I could get more
creative with a manual. A friend has four of my photographs hanging in his
den...flowers shot through a piece of wavy shower door glass...they look
like impressionist paintings.

My photographer uncle reccomended it as a learner...I went on to buy 35mm
Canons and Nikons wot had bells and whistles, but always came back to my
Pentax. Never a repair either.

Oh, I do take pictures, what I meant was that I don't take many with the
Olympus that Jimmy uses, I use the Pentax almost exclusively now. I am
forever taking cat pictures and garden stuff in the summer.

I used to shoot race cars with manual focus. Motion isn't that much of a
problem from a distance, but if you are close to something like a cat, it
can run out of the picture by the time you are ready to push the button.
