Here are a few pictures of Josh's bunnies. I didn't include 2 Mini Rex
(both white/gray - a male and a female) 2 Netherland Dwarf (a chinchilla
color doe and a Himalayan doe - there is a picture of a Himalayan buck and
they look identical) and two Holland Lops - one is just a big breeder doe
and the other is a solid black buck that, no matter how many pictures you
take of him, he just doesn't show up).

Some of the pictures don't show up as well as they turned out - mostly some
of the whites look really weird - the original pictures didn't look like
this.

Neat stuff. Believe it or not I raised fryers many moons ago. They sure
can be a pain but my kids had a ball trying to make a few $$ with them.

There is still a market some fifty miles from here that sells fresh
frozen fryers. Suzanne and I often indulge.

Thanks for the pics, Leighann! Daisy is especially cute!!

I loved the photos. Thank you for sharing them. Where did you take the
pictures. It is really a good backdrop for the pictures.

JD! Wash your mouth out with soap, young man! You have the wrong bunnies to be
discussing fryers with. <G> Let me whisper this to you...can you keep a secret?
I like fried rabbit...now don't tell anyone.

Cute bunnies, Leighann.
Opal is a beautiful color, warm brown.
Our dog groomer has a farm with bunnies running all over.
It's a riot. She has to put wire around all her plants and bushes.
I love to go there just to see the bunnies and horses.
Jorji doesn't like to go there. <g>
But he likes the smells. <g>

Boy, do I understand that!! I have two beautiful black Labs...and no matter how
hard you try, they come out as shiny black blobs with a pink tongue!
The bunnies are gorgeous. And all those awards! Josh must be very proud.

How cute they are-:)
How did you manage to make them sit still?
It's true that two or three of them looked as if you'd set the contrast too
high, but most were fine.

I sat his grooming table up in the kitchen, in front of the sink. I thought
they would turn out best in there with the fluorescent lighting. The rest
of my house is so dark and it was overcast outside yesterday.

The blue in the window is where he has tarps covering one corner of the
screen-porch to protect them from rain and direct sun.

If you look close, you can see Nellie in her cage on the other side of the
window.

They are going to put up a small barn in the back yard in the next few
months. Until then, the bunnies live on the screened porch and Josh has a
lot of work to do cleaning up after them every day :-)

I like rabbit also - but these guys are strictly for pets and show.

I heard a man at a show recently talking about switching from mini-rex to
standard rex. Then I heard him say he was tired of meat that was only big
enough to make a sandwich out of. He saw me standing there with my mouth
gaping open and said, "Well, you can't put all of them on the show
table......."

Sort of made me sick to think about. I guess because all of Josh's bunnies
are big fuzzy pets to us.

I know that JD was joking and I hope that he knows that I was teasing back at
him.<G> Don't they breed fryer rabbits (notice that I call the fryers rabbits?
lol!) specifically for frying? Otherwise, you would get tough bunnies...er..I
mean..rabbits.<G>

Yes, there are rabbits that are specifically 'meat' rabbits. Some of those
breeds are also shown and, I'm sure, kept as pets.

And there's the other breeds that are specifically known for show or pets -
but, some people eat them as well.

Personally, I could never kill one - but the Mini Rex fur is so soft and
plush, I've teased Josh and told him that, as they die from natural causes,
I want to tan the hides :-)

Leighann these are lovely. I can see why Josh is so interested. Way back in
my youth I used to breed Fancy mice.....but never won anything like
this......Josh has done so well, I am glad you were able to show us, thank
you.
I think my favourite is Nellie.
Bobbie:-)

A friend of ours in Vermont with a large family decided to raise rabbits for
food. When the time came, the kids had hysterics. We ended up with a lot of
rabbits, a few hours work and a freezer full of meat. :)

At the expense of being gross I can't help but relate, but in a
different way. My kids (girl and boy) were quite young at the time,
around 8 and 6, and the two of them delighted in dragging out the guts
and sloshing them around gleefully. They'd insist upon getting the
gutting job. Often they'd get into "gut fights" and other such classy
things. Absolutely nothing bothered my kids... they were real troopers.

Slippers, Leighann, with the furry side "in". That's what I used to tell my
long haired calico cat when I'd get annoyed with her.

My Dad raised rabbits for a while for the table. He also raised some
gigantic earthworms under the wire-bottomed hutches! They were good on the
grill, too. No, silly, the rabbits, not the worms! The worms kept falling
through the grill into the fire....hehehehehe.

Holly you Nut!!! LOL
We also raised rabbits, and had several ones that we showed at fairs. I had
two Champagnes that won Blue and Purple ribbons. And like yours there were
the red worms under the cages.

That's what I want to do when we get the rabbit barn put up - put boxes
under each pen with dirt/nightcrawlers. I could sell the worms to one of
the bait shops around and use the composted rabbit pellets in my flowers :-)

Yes Leighann, those night crawlers, will sell really well. They seem to
grow really well with the rabbits. My brother and I bought bikes from the
money we made selling the worms, and rabbit to the local supermarket. I
still like rabbit Bar B Qued. LOL
