Good for you! I like painting, because I get drunk on color, but my only
real skill is scupture. paint some for both of us!
giggle; see next post..Oh, I was unable to see your teacher's work; the
site opens, but no graphics, am I doing something wrong?

And Denise, you are another talented lady...loved your colorful pretty
plates, have saved your site for more later. Good luck with your new
teacher, I'm glad you like her.
A childhood friend of mine grew up to be a great painter, also sells her art

Well, you sure picked a good teacher. I looked at her work and it right up
my alley, so to speak. I wish you all the best in your "new" career. Just
remember this word. "Practice, practice, practice". You are on the way and
the best to you.

OOOOOOH! (hic!) Wonderful color! have only just glanced thru, must share
with hubby, he is another colorholic and also greatly admires excellence in
any medium, these will leave him open-mouthed!
Thank you! Period food was my specialty. Scale is mostly 1 inch to the
foot, so the boar's head for instance is on a commercial plate just about 1
and 1/4 inch in diameter. I have made some as small as 3 ft to the inch; the
peas nearly drove me sane; but unfortunately most back-up pieces were lost
in a mailing. Fortunately the original client still has his.
Yes, they are fired, but are low-fire, 'oven' clays. Process is mostly
straight modeling, clay mixed to a basic color for the food in question,
then details, glazes, etc. added after firing.
The marzipan 'sugar' is ground glass. Is sold as a stengthener for plaster
casting, but refracts very like real sugar and does not have the tedious
habit of attracting creepy-crawlies.

heh. no, but have not yet reached an accomodation with beady eyes and knotty
fingers. trying larger scales now, maybe someday I get back to real work!

Janie, dont you have some pix of your painted garden? That is such an
unusual vista (besides showing where ewer little pointed head is at, off
among the clouds and flowers, so you keep running in to things on mere earth
;) I am sure our newbies would enjoy seeing. C'mon now, coax, coax, coax...
Wily or very? .....LOL
Toddy, no flatterer!
Yes, I know of them, but 'real' clay requires a skill set I dont really
have. The low fires have a much different 'hand'. Also, for the foods
especially, the combination of colored clay with over -painting seems to
give more depth to the illusion. I have seen some food by 'real' potters,
but not very much that comes off in 1". OTOH, dishes in real ceramic work
beautifully and I used them where ever possible.
Well, if it is keeping from going senile I wonder why I started.
Truthfully these games are full of very young players and sometimes the
results are different than yoyu would expect. They can be very childish
at times and very mature at others. I wish on the other hand that the
time was spent in something more rewarding. Painting is for me
something that is done with a roller and tray though once I thought
much differently.
I had a look at your website Denise, you create lovely things. I especially
like that bowl with the oranges.
