Thanks, Kelly, and thanks for signing my guest book.
Three other AFPF posters have also signed it today.
A great big "Thank you" to all of them!
What fun! It's my first online guestbook. <g>

I'm sorry I never signed your guestbook at your PictureTrail website. I was
new to PictureTrail then. It's nice the way they notify you of each guest
who signs the guest book.

So far I've had 7 people sign my guestbook and I'm getting a big kick out of
seeing people sign in. Each one is like a little surprise.

Thank you for all the kind comments.

BTW, the reason I chose "saltysally" for my PictureTrail ID, is because the
little sailboat in the pictures is named "Sally Forth".

Karen,

What kind of dog is George? He is so cute, and white. I have two Maltese
dogs (babies) who are almost five years old and very tiny. Also, I loved
your boats. I always wanted to get one. I even had the name picked out,
well actually two. "Sailbad the Sinner" was one and the other was "Erk's
Ark". Not bad for a third grade graduate, huh?

Hi Devil,
It's great to meet another Maltese owner! Georgie (jorji) is a Maltese too.
They're the most precious little dogs, so affectionate and perky. You're
lucky to have two of them!

I like those boat names. :) I've always loved collecting boat names. One
time I saw a boat called "Marie's Nightmare". LOL Another cute one was
"Jolly Cork". I once heard about a psychiatrist's boat which was called
"Tranquil Liza". I've also seen a "Katz Meow", obviously belonging to folks
named Katz. Another was "Floats Cellone"... guess their name was Cellone.
The most outrageous name was a huge cruiser we saw on the Hudson River
called "Deductible Too". Some nerve! <vbg>

Nice webpage, Kelly. The music goes so well with it. Are children frightened
by the troll stories in Norway? Or are they like our fairy tales here,
stories which have happy endings. Also, is Trollheimen really a specific
place in Norway? I tried to google, but all the hits were in Norwegian.

Yes, Trollheimen is a specific place in Norway. The last picture on that page

These stories are fairy tales, or so people say <g>, children used to love them.

PS - Jane, when you signed my guest book, you mentioned all the boats in the
pictures, "a canoe, a sailboat, and the 21' motorboat". You asked if we had
a Seadoo, paddleboat or skiff. We do have a peddleboat. But no wave-runner.
We once had a 25' boat, but we've downgraded to a 19' boat now.

I think I'll ask my husband to scan our photos of our 25' boat and I'll put
them up at PictureTrail with our other boating photos. I can't believe we
have no digital photos of our 25' boat yet. Our son has a 35' sailboat. We
should scan a photo of it and post that one too, while we're at it. I think
I've come to take all these boats for granted. I have to remind myself how
very fleeting it all can be, and I'd better enjoy them now while we have
them.

Karen, looking forward to the summer...

Yes, put some pics up.

Did you boat on a lake, a river, or in the ocean?
I'm wondering this about Norma too.
We've boated on all three, in one boat or another. My husband used to
trailer that big 25' boat around behind our Chevy Suburban. I always had my

I only have a skiff and a canoe, but my cousin, who shares the cottage
with me (thank goodness - not only do I like him, but he's incredibly
handy and can fix just about anything!) has a 15' bow rider, and a 13'

damage the seats in his larger boat).

My next door neighbours have a paddleboat and a kayak, and she just LOVES
my skiff, so we have a "trade" agreement.

My brother and his wife are buying a Seadoo for their cottage, so I might
try that this summer.

Jane,
It sounds as if you have an ideal situation there. What fun!
Do you have to travel far from your home to get to the cottage?
We used to travel 4 hours to camp each summer.
The packing was horrific. <g>

Depends on the traffic, Karen. About three hours if there isn't any. But
around Toronto, trying to leave town in the summer turns that into 4.

I try to minimize my packing, it's such a pain moving everything from the
car to the boat to the cottage. But there are stores nearby, so I don't
have to pack all my food, and the cottage is fully equipped, so no
dishes, cooking equipment or anything of that type is needed.

Just had to butt in at this point. We used to have a sailboat (named
Vertigo) at Pickwick Lake, (behind a dam on the Tenn. river) about 100
miles from here.
Coming back from a weekend, we saw some guy towing a maybe 20 foot
fiberglass hulled boat with his really hot car, make a wrong move. The
trailer fishtailed and dumped the boat sideways, and it bounced and
rolled down the hill, making a thunderous noise, and scaring everybody
on the road. Other younger people stopped to help him load it back on,
so we went home. Never knew if there were splits in the hull or what.

Just found this post. That was a scary incident, Blake.

Vertigo's a great name for a sailboat, especially if you're prone to
seasickness. <g>

Jane, I just found your reply.
I'll bet that at this point in the winter, you're dreaming of your summer
cottage.
A 3 or 4 hour trip is worth it.

Over the years (in various sized boats) we fished the Niagara River, Lake Erie
and Lake Champlain. The last boat was a 21 footer on a double axel trailer.
Harry towed it from Vermont to Florida while I followed behind in the second
car. In Florida we fished in the Gulf.

When we moved back north (one car, now) we phoned our oldest son to come down
and drive it back with his Dad. I flew back north. :) I did tow a couple of
times with the boat and once with a small flatbed trailer with lumber. I
detest trailering!

Norma, you have quite a boating background!
From the Northeast to Florida! Wow!
So, you've done the trailering bit too, eh?
Yes, it's no fun.

One time our axle broke under our 21' boat while we were turning into a gas
station. We had to take a motel while my husband found a used axle. He
replaced the axle himself. I'll never forget him lying under the boat, under
the jacked up trailer... in the rain. Sheesh! My heart was in my mouth. I
was a wreck.

Harry blew a tire on a smaller trailer once while towing a 15 ft. boat. At the
time we, too, had a Suburban. He managed to keep everything upright on the
road. I was glad I wasn't with him!

Sue and Norma,
You're very brave to drive with a vehicle in tow.

I used to drive the empty trailer back home after my husband launched the
boat. I was afraid with just an empty trailer behind me. And it was only an
8 minute drive on a quiet road. Turning into the driveway seemed a bit
tricky because you have to turn so wide... or else. <g>

One time my husband turned into the driveway with the 25' boat in tow. The
boat was too high with the convertible top up. He hit the low branches of a
tree and ripped the new top and bent the crossbars of the frame. So we had
to have that repaired. We learned a good lesson about keeping our vehicle's
height in mind.
