I was reading the posts about the artwork and I saw some of you say what
I hear a lot of...You think you have no talent as an artist...It's my
belief that everyone is an artist...There isn't a soul out there that
isn't creative...Being an artist doesn't mean painting like a
grandmaster or being an Andy Wharhol...Art is an expression of
yourself...Even paint by number, Dalin...I once took a paint by number
and did it in all the wrong colors on purpose...The result was really
something...My own son one time tried to throw away a wood object I
found in the garbage...It was supposed to be a bowl but it came out
another interesting shape <G>...I still have it displayed proudly on the
mantel...He gave me this look when I put it up there and said it was
just a piece of junk...I told him his hands made it, so it was valuable
to me...David even has my artistic bent and doesn't know it...I watched
him one night when they had us over for dinner...David was rearranging
things in the living room and it looked wonderful when he was done...He
has my asymetrical point of view and knows just where to position a
piece of furniture or even flowers...It was something watching him...He
has one room in his trailer that is only his and you should see
it...It's all David and he has it fixed up so interesting and again,
knows exactly where to put things to their best advantage...Yet, David
would never want to paint or draw...He expresses himself in other
areas...I believe EVERYONE is an artist!

Janie I should like to look secretly in your house and then sneaking away I
got ideas.

Janie's right!!! We all have talents that are artistic. I'm no decorator,
but music (even dancing) is an art form, knitting, crocheting, graphics,
wiritng, flower arranging, putting a chair in just the right place is art
work. Some of us blossom later in life, but who's had time when we're
raising kids? It's fun to find out you have an artistic ability and have
some time to play with it!!

Well said, Janie! Anybody who can sign their name can draw because
those 26 letters of the alphabet are nothing more than miniature
drawings. Writing your name requires hand/eye co-ordination the same
as drawing, it's just that we practice and practice our writing until
it becomes automatic but too little time is set aside in schools to
do the same thing for drawing. And drawing is the most wonderful
thing because it requires you to look and look again at the subject
and really concentrate on what it is you are looking at and the act
of looking and concentrating brings about a profound change in your
perception of the subject. And if you look and concentrate and draw
what you see and do all of this with sufficient intensity you will
find that you stop 'thinking', stop thinking verbally that is, all
that idle chatter that goes on in your head all the time. And then
you understand what the painter Raphael wrote in a letter to
Leonardo; "When I am painting I do not think" It is at this point
where the inspiration comes in, the creativity and, strangely enough,
the sheer joy of existence.

I could add more but that would take us into the realms of
metaphysics and prayer and religion and God, and that sort of talk
upsets some people here in this NG :-)
