Are you going to support McCain?

Is not a middle-of-the-roader better
than a extreme Leftist who will further
bankrupt our country and snatch defeat
from the jaws of victory? How safe do
you think the U.S. will be with Obama in
the Oval Office?

Take sides! Always take sides! You will
sometimes be wrong - but the man who
refuses to take sides must *always* be
wrong! Heaven save us from poltroons
who fear to make a choice.
--Robert A(nson) Heinlein (1907-1988)
American science-fiction writer.

No...we have run up an enormous debt, $9 trillion, under the Repugs,
they have destroyed the economy, and we are much LESS safe today under
Repug rule.
These are indesputable facts. The evango-neo-con artists have f**ked
up everything they have touched.
In the face of those facts - the only thing the Replutocrats have left
is FEAR.

There are no "extreme leftists" running.

The day Mr Clinton entered office the US debt was $4,167,200,410,899.83 the
day he left the debt was $5,727,776,738,304.64. a 23 percent increase The
US debt has been increased over 3 trillion Mr Clinton increased the debt at
a slower rate than any Republican president sin Ike but Mr Bush has not
increased the debt in constant dollars increase as fast as Ronald Reagan.
Now way you cut it $9 trillion is eye popping and a percentage increase in
the 33 percent range

Yep. I would prefer Hucklebee or Hunter but it does not seem like that is to
be.

However, not getting exactly what you want is part of living in a society and
its politics.

In any case, I have done quite well no matter which party controls the Congress,
the White House or the Judicial. I have no reason to whine.

Most people don't have a reason to whine but do
so anyway. Glad you're taking the half a loaf &
hope other Conservatives do the same. ... Thanks
for "Pepper & Salt" - I often forget to read it in
the WSJ. All we need now are those animal
cartoons from the New Yorker and all will be
right with the world. Or, at least, better.

And those of us that have no "religion" are compelled to vote against
the militantly religious.

Borrow and spend (spending like a crack whore with a stolen credit
card) while cutting taxes for your pals AND cutting them fat checks
from the national budget is a very bad idea, no matter how you slice
it.

If we RAISED taxes (especially corporate taxes) whenever we went to
war, outlawed war profiteering entirely, did away with all the ol
buddy contractors, and instituted a draft - we'd have fewer and
shorter wars. And much less expensive ones at that.

Probably correct, though I haven't looked it up. Much of the debt
from that era is accounted for by the fact that excess Social Security
funds are invested in Treasury securities. They should, of course be
invested back into the economy. I hope whoever gets elected has the
guts to propose this. I bet McCain would do it. Too bad he has zero
chance.

Fact remains that Clinton had the guts to ask for increased taxes and
created a surplus several years. When's the last time any Repug did
that?

No, you are absolutely correct.

Yeah, if our nation is going to hell in a handbasket, I'm sure going
to point it out. If that's whineing to you, so be it.
