While roaming the art supply store last night,
I was thinking about how many times I've heard
that artist's brushes can be used as makeup
brushes. (Plus look at all those bins and
organizers!) However, I was wondering if there
are certain types of brushes that should be
avoided? For example, some brushes I bought
for regular purposes seem to have had their
bristles treated with something to stiffen
them into a point. I know the stiffness goes
away with time, but I don't welcome the thought
of residual chemicals on my mouth or near
my eyes. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but
does any one else have an opinion on this?

I've done some work with theater makeup in college, and can tell you that
ALL I used for intricate designs, liplines, and eyelines were art brushes.
They're balanced better with those longer handles, and they seem to hold
their edge longer than most other makeup brushes. I talked it over with a
professional makeup artist, who recommended buying the sable brushes (less
damaging to the face), and said that he had never experienced anyone having
a reaction to them.

Go ahead and try it. For a few bucks, I think you'll be pleasantly
surprised.

Well, the difficulty is that sable brushes -- good ones -- are very,
very expensive.

I'd think if you wanted to try watercolor brushes -- which are always
natural bristle -- you'd be okay.

I also spent far too long in the art world.Mom and dad are artists as well. so
I do understand. Anyway, Makeup brushes that are worth a damn are made of sable
and are outrageously expensive . at least in art supply stores you have some
choice!
