My plan was to run out on my lunch hour and buy some toothpaste, but instead of
going straight to the checkout counter, I sashayed over to cosmetics
(surprise!) and left with 3 more Loreal Glam Shines. I bought Starlet and
Seductress 2 weeks ago, and loved them. Today, I added Princess, Muse, and
Diva to my collection. I normally stick to high-end stuff because I'm usually
disappointed with the drugstore stuff once I get home and try it on properly,
but these are great. I also bought Lucky and Shape.

Well, pre-ordered, actually...
From the Le Sportsac Gwen Stefani collection:
(can't believe I just bought something called this)The Hella Hobo in
the Lamb Print.

It's the same size as the leather hobo purse I now carry, and it's a
fun look for when I don't want to carry a leather purse.

I found a brand new picnic backpack. Oddly enough, it is the EXACT one that
Oprah had on her show yesterday. (My Favorite Spring Things Show). It was at a
garage sale and brand new. The lady wanted $20, I offered $10, she took $15.
Hee hee, it's for sale online for $85.

At the Dollar Store,

Trilby, there were Rimmel mascaras, makeup brushes and foundations, but no
Rimmel lipsticks to be found.

So I had to content myself with:
OO nail lacquer in Autumn Red, Almay Stay Smooth Lipcolor in Dawn and Revlon
Colorstay Lip Tint in Caramel, all of which came to $4.

Also found some drawstring black linen capris/crop pants on sale for $28.

Went to my favorite local boutique with the intention of just
_browsing_ the new fall stuff. Came home with:

black EFcropped stretch crepe pants
matching EF black jacket
cloud EF short sleeve tee
black calf Franco Sarto slides
camel Charles David strappy flip flops
apple green leather tote that appears to be a knock off of a
combination of Kate Spade and Sarah Shaw (same pinking across the

Also ordered a bag from the same local girl who made my pink and

Feeling a little better today <sniff, cough, wheeze> so I decided to take my
germs shopping. (I swear to Bob I did not share my germs with anyone. I am a
good little citizen of the empire.)

Ross:
- Tommy Hilfiger jeans, with a low rise and moderately straight legs, nicely
faded with no flaws I could see, for $19.99.
- very cute dress by Ronni Nicole (love this brand!). It's knee-length, black,
sleeveless, A-line with a polo-style collar and a silvertone zipper at the neck,
made out of some sporty pique knit with "racing stripes" in black and white down
each side from underarm to hem. On clearance for $16.99.
- very cute dark navy pantsuit by Courtenay, on clearance for $13.99. The pants
zip in the back and are *slightly* tapered. The top is sleeveless and collarless
(so it looks a bit vest-like) in a wrap style and fastens at one side with a
little self-strap and d-ring closure. No idea where I'll wear this, but for $14
I couldn't *not* get it!
- Candy Rain baseball-style shirt with grey torso, black 3/4 sleeves, black trim
at neck, and a big scrolly letter "K" embroidered, Laverne-style, in black over
the left chest area. They only had Ks, Js and Is so I lucked out! On clearance
for $5.99.

Ulta:
- repurchase of Seche Vite
- repurchase of Creative Nail Design Stickey base coat

WalMart:
- navy sandals with a chunky 2" heel and a criss-cross, wide elastic band design
(to wear with the pantsuit, though I'd like to find some nice navy slingbacks
for it too)
- really cute black flip-flops by Hanes with wide fabric straps. The bottoms
look like sneaker bottoms (thick white rubber w/black stripes and a reinforced
toe). These will go great with the black dress above!
- Bonne Bell Dr. Pepper lipsmacker
- assorted hangers

Some weeks ago, I made a necklace to wear to my son's football games. Team is
the Panthers. I got a ceramic black panther from Shipwreck with the intention
of making this necklace into a casual/fun piece specifically for the football
games. I really thought it would turn out kind of tacky, but that would be
okay just for a football game, you know? Well, I got to making that thing and
before I really realized it, I had Swarovski and Bali all in it, and it turned
out anything but tacky. It's very beautiful. I will still wear it to the
football games, but it's elegant enough to wear with my good clothes, too. I
never thought I'd want to wear a necklace with a black panther hanging off it,
but it's really an interesting piece. And when I saw that it had turned out
nicely, I even glued some tiny rhinestones on the panther's face for his eyes
and used a rhinestone clasp! Making jewelry is so fun. -- Beckie

Wow, that sounds fantastic! Do you have a photo?

I'm just finishing up a set of bracelets for a wedding , one for the bride,
one
for each of her daughters plus several for her to give as gifts.

Her theme is Victorian, purple/lavender and white. I copied a necklace in
a museum catalogue for their bracelets using Swarovski crystals and pewter
clasps. The gift ones are very modern and all different. They are mainly
druks with accents of sterling or a lampworked bead as accent.

It's amazing how a piece of jewelry can pick up - or change - an outfit.

BTW, I haven't ordered from Shipwreck in ages, has their quality and
customer service improved?

I wonder if we three are the only jewelry designers here?

I will try to get a digital photo of the necklace, J. Right now, I am on the
hunt for components to use to make one of those "O" necklaces several AF'ers
have been talking about. I saw a rhinestone "O" pendant on a website that
looked like it might work, but did I bookmark the site? Of course not. So now
I have to find it again. And yes, it's wonderful how jewelry can pick up or
change an outfit. Those bridesmaid bracelets you made sound gorgeous. I, too,
like to use pewter to make Victorian pieces. The pewter gives the pieces that
"old" look that's so perfect for Victorian. I've been wearing more pink this
summer, both in cosmetics and clothes, and I've been having a ball making
jewelry with pink in it. Recently, I got some 4 inch headpins and made
earrings with them. I used 3mm pink crystals and some silver, and I love the
way those long, dangly pink crystals look with this spring green tank dress I
have. The earrings are quite simple, really, but they add just the right pinky
sparkle with that dress. -- Beckie

I have on a very neat bracelet that I bought in a southwestern furniture
store (bracelet came from Mexico). Regular silver looking (I think 1 and 1/8
inch)safety pins strung on two elastic cords (top and bottom of pin).On the
open part of the safety pin (before closing together) there are small seed
beads in coral and then the next pin has citrine colored beads, and then the
next pin has 5 larger beads (about 4 to 5 MM). They also put pins with no
beads here and there. Grouped up close together in a bracelet circle, the
effect is very very nice! But I dare not steal this idea. LOL

Wearing this with silver earrings and the new coral color top I bought
yesterday at such a good price at Neiman Marcus Last Call.

I went a little Isabella Fiore crazy at Nordies last weekend. ;)
*Got the True Love Katie bag. Very rocker chick! I love it.
*Pre-ordered a "What's Your Sign?" Zodiac tote in Scorpio. Have you seen these
yet? They are adorable! A different picture for each sign of the zodiac.
It's part of the IF Holiday Collection which is due out in mid-October. The
Scorpio picture features a tan brunette with a scorpion tattoo on her back
sitting in the Arabian desert. She's framed by pink flowers. I believe the
last day to pre-order at Nordies was Saturday, but I know Fred Segal was taking
orders as well.

I got my Nordies catalog in the mail yesterday, so this morning I called the
beauty hotline and ordered some goodies:

*MAC Shademates in Warm Eye
*Stila Anniversary Kit
*The Best of Laura Mercier Kit
*Paula Dorf set (this was not in my catalog, but the rep clued me in!)
*Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Body Lotion

The DK was an impulse buy that she convinced me to get. If I didn't know
better, I'd SWEAR she was an AFer! Totally knowledgeable and really made me
salivate for everything. She mentioned that the DK is a limited edition
item brought back for the event, and that the entire office is mad for it.

I wanted to order some of the clothing, but she said I had to wait until the
sale to do that. :(

use frivolously since I've got a grant application due August 1:

MAC Powerpoint in Engraved (this has been sold out around here for a
while)
Osmotics Kinetin (replacement for a newly emptied bottle)
Dior Snow UV Whitening Spot Corrector

Also, Joe bought me a new iPod. I had the original 5G version but he
bought me a 30G version because I was actually running low on space with
800 songs on the 5G. I don't think I'll outgrow the 30G!

I have used the Cashmere Mist Body Lotion for a couple years. It is heavenly
as a comfort body lotion scent! Don't know if there is still a Creme, but
the Lotion was always better. The lotion fragrance really does last, and I
often mix it with half unscented lotion if I want something lighter (plus it
really extends the life of the container...I have the 6.7 oz one now).

Am thinking about the mini Glossimers but I have to go see which colors they
are. Otherwise, there was very little in the catalog that screamed "must
have" at me. It must know that I'm trying to be moratorium-y.

Thanks, Susan! I'm definitely looking forward to getting the goodies in the
mail. I did a fast Google and found an old post by Doris that describes the
scent. Hopefully she doesn't mind me posting it here:

"A delicately feminine fragrance, it blends Moroccan jasmine, lily of the
valley, and bergamot for its upper notes, while the background comes from
a combination of sandalwood, amber, and musk. A clean scent for everyday
wear." Elsewhere I've seen it described as a woodsy Oriental.

After reading this description, I'm not so sure whether this is something
that I will particularly care for. Normally, I go for the lighter, more
citrus and vanilla scents. But this is a nice excuse to try something
different, and you never know right? An AFer should always been open to new
beauty experiences. :)

will be good with dark denim jeans- definitely adding these to my list :)

This one doesn't have the HEPA installed, I needed a new one and this one is
very handy.

These are available for the anniversary sale (and in the sale catalog), so
they probably aren't on the site yet. The boots are a light-ish medium pink
slightly distressed looking leather with pointy toes and tan wooden skinny
heels. They have a light colored stitching design on the leather that makes
them more unique, but doesn't take away from the cute-ness/pink-ness. I'm
excited to still be able to wear pink in the fall! This was the one item I
could not pass up from the sale!

A trip to Walgreen's finally resulted in the discovery
of what must be the teeeeeeniest j.a.n.e. collection
next to "nothing at all." I did buy one regular-size
lipstick in Mostly Mauve (worth the experiment) and 2 mini-
sizes: Girlie and Romeo. I also got It's a Girl e/s
because I'm a sucker for pink e/s.

Also bought a Revlon EyeGlide. I know one AF'er gave it
a terrible review, but I'm curious enough to want to at
least try it; I think it would be a great and easy way to
apply e/s. Also bought some bandaids with the antibiotic
in the gauze. Lord knows my nails need some help. kayper

Of course, a white vacuum cleaner is fashionable: after all, it's the
perfect contrast to the LBD.

There's also the Red Star (the outside looks like a perfect match for
Nancy Reagan) for heavier carpets.

- Mossimo black cap-sleeved v-neck stretchy tee (I bought the white one last
week and decided it needed company
- Maybelline Wonder Finish foundation - anyone else seen/tried this? It's
apparently new and is supposed to be a liquid-to-powder. I'm pretty sure the
shade I bought, Nude, is going to be way too dark. All the shades looked either
really pink or really peach, but I bought it anyway, because I'm a sucker for

- NYC Brush-On Lip Glaze in Luscious, which I swear looked brown in the store
but looks purple at home. Oh well.
- Colorvive shampoo and conditioner (repurchases)
- many assorted edibles, including Luna Bars which were only 89-cents, and two

also had chile lime but I didn't want to go too crazy)

Actually yesterday....Dave bought a new hose for the washing machine and I
bought a SwiftJet. Big rave on the SwiftJet!!!

Why should YOU care? So the following WILL NOT happen to you.

Came home from my court date with the ex yesterday to find my mom in a
panic...and then to find my kitchen, garage and part of my living room under
water.

The hose connecting to the washing machine decided it was done and basically
there was an explosion of water...several neighbors were unsuccessful finding
the main shutoff valve or gaining access to it and apparantly everyone was
completely drenched that came into my house.

They were unable to shut off the water because comes to find out in the City of
Allen, the water company has LOCKS on the water valves outside...go figure...so
yesterday ended up cleaning up throwing out most of the food from the pantry,
etc.

Call into the insurance company told us no reason to file a claim because the
hose is our responsibility under proper maintenance....so everyone go home
tonight and check your hoses!!

That's your PSA of the day!!

Yesterday:

Had a long awaited and much needed day at the spa with a couple of
old friends. We met in a town was a midpoint for us all so it was
my first time at that spa. Decided since I was out of town I would
take advantage of some of my spa time by having my hair highlighted
and cut. I have been with the same colorist and stylist for almost
10 years and it was time for me to try something new. I'm very
pleased with the color and with the cut from the new stylist, so
pleased that I am willing to drive the 55 miles to have her do my
hair again. I also had a hot stone massage, a pedicure and a
manicure.

Today:

Stopped in the new local day spa to check out the product lines and
was pleased to discover that they carry Bumble and Bumble, Phyto and
a few other lines that we haven't had access to locally. I bought
BB Gentle shampoo and BB Deep Conditioner. Also bought a
replacement OPI Coney Island Cotton Candy.

Later I went to Target where I purchased a SK Cheek Sheer in
Sunkissed, a few gossipy magazines and the last pair of pink linen
capris.

My appliance repair guy told me that the only way to guarantee even a
brand new washing machine hose would not flood your house is to
manually close the valve after each use. Phooey. My point is that if
they know even a new one can pop, how can your insurance company put
the monkey on your back by saying you were negligent in re: to
maintenance?

Yes, I know I said I only had time to shop once before the home stretch of
my grant-writing but Nordies is only a mile from home and the sale started
and I promise to hole myself up with my computer and write all weekend
until I'm done. Really! I think so, anyway!

Went to Nordies because other kind AFers assured me that stuff that wasn't
in the catalog, which didn't interest me, would also be on sale. Sure
enough, I found stuff I wanted!

Two different Micheal Leu tops. Once is a purple waffle knit button-up
blouse-type sweatshirt with a square graphic painting attached to the left
chest area and and the other is a green, cropped waffle top (no buttons)
with a different painting centered on it. I love Michael Leu stuff because
it's fun and cozy.
Two M.MAC for Nordstrom summer dresses (not on sale). One short, turquoise
T-shirt dress with heiroglyphic type graphics placed a few inches apart
(birds, water, etc.) and the other long, black and with side-slits and
white fish graphics.
A pair of New Balance backless, slip-on 801 sneakers so I can jump into
them immediately when the puppy needs to pee.
Identical pair for my husband for similar reasons but the men's weren't on
sale while the women's were. What gives there, I ask you?!?

But the thrill purchase of the day, not on sale, is a rectangular, long
silk Pucci scarf. As with most Pucci, I can't describe the design except
to say that it's very definitely and unmistakably Pucci and that the main
colors are white, black, fuschia, turquoise and celadon. I love, love,
LOVE this scarf. I've always loved Pucci and while I am not a scarf person
(my Hermes scarves are all gifts from wealthy Japanese relatives, most
remaining in their boxes, unworn) this scarf screamed my name so loudly
that I'm surprised I didn't hear it in the parking garage before I entered
the store. Of this years purchases to date, this is my to-die-for
I-must-have-this I-will-love-it-always purchase.

At Rack Room Shoes:

3 pairs of sandals - one blue braided leather thongs, one white
leather flower slides, one brown leather skinny straps with a pattern

At TJ Maxx:

Whoa - clearance! Bought *another* pair of sandals, thongs with 3
strips of braided leather, 2 tan and 1 brown

4 belts - one navy, red and khaki d-ring ribbon belt, one navy RL
leather belt with silver buckle, one tan cotton casual belt, one black
leather Ellen Tracy belt with a hook and ring arrangement in the front

3 bags - one dark red RL leather bag and one blue 9 West with wide
strips of braided leather in a checkerboard pattern, and the *cutest*
evening bag which I have absolutely no use for - it's a round black
silk bag with a little pouf of maribou on the top of the clasp, by
Jessica McClintock

2 little zippy bags from Le Sportsac in bright stripes to continue the
vain attempt to organize the various cr*p in my purse

Gobs and oddles of shower gel, body lotion, room spray, candles, and
Barielle hand therapy and moisturizer gloves, all for practically
nothing.

Also bought assorted frivolous magazines and "What Not To Wear". I
haven't opened this book yet, and I just hope I don't see one of
today's purchases featured. :-P

It was a good day. :-)

Had a grand time tromping around the Galleria, but tomorrow I must remember
not to wear flip flops -- ouch! I didn't mean to buy as much as I did, but
I'm fairly happy w/ my purchases.

At Nordstrom (an evil evil place):
- 3 wacoal bras on sale, super comfortable.
- a sports back le mystere bra on sale, but I need to exchange it for a
different size.
- Drama navy micropleated skirt that hits me mid shin, 1" rubber band waist,
sheer navy overlay with waves of small white dots on top of a solid navy
underskirt (both layers micropleated), micropleating fanned out at the
bottom 3-4". The micropleating means that the skirt conforms to all my
curves w/o being tight.
- Necessary Objects pleated grey pinstripe skirt that has a drop waist.
This will look great w/ my grey faux suede knee high boots.
- Wanted to get a Coach leather purse, but they only had the tan one -- I
wanted the black.
- Amazingly didn't buy any skincare or cosmetics, albeit this may change
when I go back tomorrow.

At Banana Republic:
- black v-neck long sleeve crochet top, on sale for $20.

At Old Navy:
- rust red ribbed knit tank dress with leather lace up at neckline. Good
for lazy days around the house for only $9.
- tons of bikini pieces, which is stupid b/c I never go swimming or to the
beach. Obviously I hope to spend lots of time in the hot tub. ;D

The bad news is that I'm getting it partly because I dropped my old one

At the Bloomingdales' shoe sale:
*Franco Sarto black leather loafers. . .need these for work. Met a really
knowledgable SA named Otis who taught me a lot about my feet. He basically
looked at my feet and said, "You have narrow feet and those shoes may not work
on you." Sure enough, the shoes were loose and he recommended getting inserts.
In fact, he broke out that measuring device and showed me what my foot size
actually was. He told me possible foot problems that I might encounter and
recommended certain brands that would suit my foot. *Very* enlightening. If
anyone is in the LA area, I highly recommend paying a visit to Otis at Bloomies
in Century City.

At Stuart Gavert salon in BH:
*highlights and a new cut. . . chopped about 6 inches off and now my hair is
just past shoulder length with layers and I've added bangs. Very happy with
how it turned out. My stylist Tori was worried that I'd "freak out" and kept
asking if it was okay to cut more. Kinda funny but probably very smart on her
part. I'm sure lots of people freak. ;)
*brow shaping and lip wax

Try sleeping on a spindle of blank DVDs. I did (the bed is behind the
computer, so the bed gets used as a table sometimes).

Michelle, Otis' advice makes a lot of sense. One of my daughters has a
narrow foot and cannot wear
Franco Sartos at all. The other one has a medium/wide foot and FS's are her
favorite brand. A
knowledgeable shoe clerk can make all the difference when you are trying on
shoes.

Audrey, you are so right about a knowledgeable shoe clerk. He really stood out
as knowing his stuff. So many clerks concentrate on stock and basic footwear
knowledge gets passed over. Anyway, for those with narrow feet, Otis
recommends Cole Haan, Via Spiga, and a few other brands I'm blanking on ATM.
He said I should invest in inserts with arch support for all my wider shoes,
and I'm going to follow through with this. For wider feet, he recommends Bruno
Magli, Munro, some Donald Pliner styles, and New Balance for walking shoes.

Don't you mean "slide"? ;-)

And do tell me you saw the Vanity Fair article on Lilly? If not, lmk and it's
yours (if DH hasn't tossed it already, which he does when he's mad)

To be honest, I don't really know. I can't tell from the picture on the
website. It's either white or shiny metallic, and I think it's white. This
is it:

ObFash: Apparently, even if I wanted to, I couldn't get the orange
clamshell iBook Elle Woods used in Legally Blonde. It's obsolete.

I saw it, Heather, thanks! AJ who is the boss of me made me buy that
issue.

I think (though I could be wrong) that the new iBooks only now come in that
pearly/metallic white. It's still very pretty, but I did like the
fruity-colored older iBooks. My husband has the aluminum PowerBook G4.
It's pretty slick.

Finally managed to find some comfy black shoes. They're suede loafers
with a patent strap with buckle. I'd never heard of the make before,
but judging by the URL they seem to be Italian. http://www.stokton.it/
Anybody else know them?

I volunteered at a thrift store today. We've been getting some great estate
sale items
so for once, I decided to go shopping
small pink crystal flower pin $1.50
round pillow and tablecloth in pink, blue, yellow and green plaid $7
Moc Croc black structured handbag in excellent condition $6
round marble lazy susan that my son can use as a slab for pastry
if he doesn't use it for its intended purpose $10
