I'll veer off in a different direction this time, instead of just posting my
staples. Here are my favorite beauty finds, regardless of how much or little I
use them...
Hard Candy quads
Comptoir Sud Pacifique
Shu or Shiseido lash curlers
Lise Watier "flying saucer" quad in greys
Mary Quant eye glosses
Pixi triple glosses
Pixi in general (don't know why I'm so into this line lately! I think they're
too expensive. That must be why I lust for it, I don't feel I can just buy
it..)
Anna Carera Sweet Angel lotion
Maurey (remove "no junk" from my address to email me)

L'Oreal Le Grand Khol eye liner pencils. I do like to use shadows as
liners quite a bit, but I always go back to these L'Oreal pencils. They
are really long so they last forever, are a good consistency for me (the
browns and black anyway, which are all I've used), and wear pretty well.
I've been using them since high school (so, over 10 years).
Clinique Different Lipsticks. The perfect creamy texture, pretty sheer
color, no scent or taste, and a pretty silver case. These are just about
perfect IMHO! I like to layer them over pencils (my new Lord & Berry fat
pencil in Red Raisin is getting tried out under all my Different
Lipsticks these days!), or each other, or just wear them alone. They are
among the most comfortable lipsticks I've ever worn. I love Black Lily
and Angel Red the best, they are staple colors I wouldn't want to be
without.
Mascara! I never wore it when I was younger because I have long, dark
and curly eyelashes. I thought, 'why bother?' Because *with* mascara, my
perfectly adequate lashes become really great lashes, that's why! I like
a few (Clinique Naturally Glossy, L'Oreal Lash Out, Body Shop
Conditioning), but I tend to go budget and usually buy drugstore
mascara, unless I am trying to splurge or get a GWP. :)
Powder foundation. It's perfect for me because I dislike the feel of
most liquid foundations and I like the soft matte look of powder. Often
I wear just loose powder over sunblock, but powder foundation is perfect
for anytime I need to look more done without having to do any more than
pat on some powder from a portable compact. Water Canvas is about as far
as I stray from powder foundation and that I only use when I go out and
feel like taking the time to put on makeup. Currently I like Versace's
and Chantecaille's powder foundations the best, I've replaced the
Versace one a couple of times already.
Nail polish - I've used OPI since high school and have yet to find a
better quality polish. Unfortunately, they don't do all the unusual
colors, but fortunately, China Glaze does, and they rock also. I buy
almost all my nail polish (and that's a *lot* of nail polish) at the
beauty supply store; the prices are on par with the drugstore, but the
selection is on par with dept. stores.
And my *new* favorite thing are Lord & Berry fat lipstick pencils (the
Soft Shine ones). They're not very shiny, I'd call them semi-matte,
semi-sheer. I love them! I posted previously about Red Raisin, but have
since acquired Desert Rose (the best 'my lips' shade yet, surpassing the
Prestige Plum crayon I posted about before), Black Cherry, and Cherry.
Cherry is about the color of Clinique Ruby Melt, but leaves a lot more
color, and Black Cherry is deep and purpley. Everyone needs to run out
and pick up a bunch of these, especially people with dry lips who have
trouble with most lip pencils. These are the best! :) I wear a tiny dab
of lip balm under the pencils, and have no drying, caking, chapping
problems at all. I can't believe it took me so long to try these.

I did some quick checking and yes:
They even have these specific pencils (and in many colors I have not
seen and may need). FWIW, I paid $3.99 for mine, so their price is good
too. HTH!

I had acquired a bunch of these in the last year (some since given away) but
the one I kept is #7203 The Naked Truth-a lovely slightly shiny & shimmery
"rosebud" lip color. Actually, the colors you mention I have never seen here in
NY. Will have to check it out.

I have a lot! So, I'll go by catagories:
FACE:
*MAC Full Coverage foundation (C15)....finally a foundation with as much
coverage as I like, plus it matches very well with my skintones.
*MAC Blot Powder. I always use it up too fast!! I buy them 2 at a time.
Lips:
*MF Lipfinity ofcourse!! :-)
*MAC Lipglass (esp Lust)
Nail polish:
*Almay One Coat....dries in 90 seconds. No "unusual" colors, but this one
doesn't chip as easily on me than most. "Grown Up colors" lol!
Hair:
*TIGI BedHead EgoBoost leave in conditioner...much lighter than Potion 9, and
doesn't make my hair so curly (I try to blow dry it kind of straight)
*TIGI CatWalk medium hold hairspray (doesn't get too crunchy)
Cleaner:
*Dove soap (just plain old white Dove!)
*Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask. Haven't seen anyone talking about this one
recently
*Neutrogena Clear Pore....been using this for a long time!
Eyes:
*Black pencils of any kind that don't smudge...still looking around!
*Eyebrows!!!!!!! Getting them waxed and shaped perfectly.
Body:
*VS Garden stuff, esp the tubes of cream
Things I have tried throughout the years that never did quite work:
*Eyelash curlers
*any mauvey-pinky lipstick
*Attempting to color my own hair various shades
Kristin
Robin
*Vincent Longo Water Canvase in Sandy Beige- This is the sheerest, most natural
foundation I've ever found. It makes my skin so flawless, and glowy. I always
get compliments on my skin when I use this. Previously, I used Bobbi Brown's
golden orange powder, but the VL stuff beats BB hands down.
*Pola's Suncut Milk- from whosthefairest.com. (fig is the best!) This is the
only sunblock that would dry to a matte finish and was still sheer enough for
me to not be able to feel it on.
*Borghese Superior State of the Art Mascara- the best mascara, IMO..
*Bobbi Brown glosses- Even though I don't like the brush applicator, these
glosses come in great colors without that super sticky feeling I get with the
MAC lipglass.
*Stila eyeshadows- Barefoot Contessa, Starlight, Auburn, Dahlia-- these
eyeshadows I always go to and look great on my brown eyes, and medium toned
yellow skin.

-loreal vive conditioner for dry hair

: Lash curlers. They make such a difference. I like Shiseido's best,
even over
: Shu Uemura.
I agree that Shiseido is better, though I couldn't actually say *why*.
Though mostly, I just want that lashperm, and ditch my curlers!

I'm guessing from our conversation on Tues that you mean cream
eyeshadows? Seeing as there are also shimmery powder eyeshadows, your
term may confuse those not familiar with the Etude shadow (waaaaah I
want one too). I am inspired to dig out my Benefit shadows now; the only
problem as I see it is that they are difficult to work with if you want
to use multiple colours, in precise placements. This usually requires a
brush and I'm not sure if I know how to use a brush with something as
dry as the Benefit shadows.

I think blendability is the most important thing in a cream blush. Also
as a matter of personal taste, I prefer cream blushes with heavier
pigments, so that only a touch of product is necessary, and application
is *quick*. With something like Benetint I feel like I could blend half
a bottle on my face and barely see anything. An old but beloved
favourite is VL's Terra Mauve (I trekked through Italy for 3 weeks with
this as my only blush -- lol). I also love PN Watery Blush, but for days
when I feel inept to deal with liquids, creams (and powders) still win
out. The blendability is unsurpassed though, IMO. It looks like part
of your skin!

I went through the sheer lippie phase while in Italy too (ah the
nostalgia). I still love them and think they're great for the days when
you want your lips to look good but not overwhelm. And they feel good on
the lips! My latest fave is Kanebo Super Essence Lip Colour Gloss in
raspberry, a deep sheer red stain. And it lasts longer than one might
expect. Best of all it only cost me JPY400.

DHC deep cleansing oil - the best makeup remover I've ever used! I love all
their stuff but I don't want to sound like a walking advertisement, so...
Powder foundation - I love the convenience, lack of mess, and the way it looks.
I'm still searching for the perfect shade/maker, though. Right now I'm using
Cover Girl Simply Powder in Ivory, but it wears off really fast.
Quick drying nail polish - no particular brand preference. With two little ones
keeping me busy, I'd never have painted nails if not for this stuff.
Terra Tints tinted lip balm - I am highly addicted to this. I've only been able
to find five shades but I've bought them all! They smooth on like a nice,
non-waxy, non-greasy stick lip balm and have a wee bit of peppermint oil in them
to make my lips feel so nice! And I love the colors - my favorite shade is
Sienna.
Philosophy's The Present moisturizer - this is the most bizarre product I've
ever used (besides Lipfinity, LOL!) It completely changes the texture of my
skin. I wear it when I want an absolutely flawless finish.
That's all for me - I'm here to learn!

Chanel, Clinique, Benefit, FACE, and others as well, make cake eyeliners.
Barb
If gloss will do, there's always MAC lipglass for that vinyl-ish look.
Best if you have short hair or are staying indoors.
And I started to use Paula Dorf cake mascara recently, too. I love the PD
mascara. But I know there are other brands of cake mascara "out there".
At $20, the PD sounds pretty expensive, but I know it will last me at least
a year--probably 2 or 3. Since I threw out my $5-6 wand mascara every month
or two, the PD is actually a great bargain.
(Thanks again to Kris and Stevie for my PD mascara and brush gifts. I think
of you guys every single time I use them.)

There is La Femme cake mascara available from makeupmania.com. I am not a fan
of cake mascaras but others seem to like this one. You get a huge container for

The idea is the same, you use water to activate it. I wouldn't think the
formulation is the same, though I'm not sure.

I got mine from two now-defunct online stores - Mothernature.com and
PlanetRX.com. I've also seen it at my local Whole Foods Market. I think most
healthfood stores that have a beauty/skincare section would carry it. It's made
by Avalon Natural Products (I think - positive about the Avalon, not sure about
the rest of the name) and it uses "unPetroleum". (PlanetRX listed it under brand
name unPetroleum, MotherNature listed it under brand name Avalon. Or maybe it
was the other way around.) Comes in a Chapstik-looking tube but has very nice
natural tints! They are not all that sheer, but they do wear off fairly quickly.

I saw the cutest compact of cake liners....4 in one in a Physician's Formula
display! There was a black, a brown, a grey, and a taupe. I think it was
under $10. I never quite got the hang of cake liners....I'll stick with my
pencils/auto pencils.
Kristin
I think MAC calls them "cream" liners, although they are used wet like cake
liners. True cream liners are the SmashBox ones.

This is also sold at Whole Foods (or at least that's where I got my two
tubes of it). I got Heather, a red-violet shade, and Blaze, a nice red
on the warm side (I think). Both are shimmery, look deep in the tube,
and go on sheer, but nicely pigmented. They're also minty. Very nice,
similar to the Bonne Bell Lip Lix.
Cheryl
well, i really got lucky with this line... the lipgloss in the tube was
gorgeous but made my lips tingle (in a bad way, not a refreshing way)... so i
saved a ton of money! spent it on other stuff, in other lines, but it's the
thought that counts....
