I bought this really nice rectangular, wood purse at a garage sale, and I
really like it. Only problem : it's in BAD need of a painting. I'm in need
of some ideas for something to paint it. I want something kinda trendy.
Any ideas??

That is SOOO Scary!! That's the color I wanted to paint it.. but I wasn't
sure because I read in Vogue that Lime Green went out, and then I read in
Seventeen that's it in.
Well, know I'm sure that's what i'll do. Thanks for the vote of
confidence!!

Kate,
Vogue may say lime green is out, but I have read dozens of spring
catalogues and been to many stores here in California from San
Francisco to San Diego. Visually I see lime green everywhere.

Yup. Sand it well (with very fine-grained paper). Get a good fabric paint
and mix with water (half and half works nicely), then use a rag to rub the
paint into the wood. Do *very* thin coats, as you can continue until you've
gotten the depth desired. Afterwards, cover with a good, strong sealant.
Old brass fittings on the corners add a great finishing touch (if it doesn't
conflict with the style of the purse, of course).

I like the idea of a painting it a solid color, but this wooden purse
reminded me of something my sister made when I was around 8 years old.
She bought a plain plastic lunch box style purse and then cut various
pictures and images out of magazines and also included written material
(words and a poem). Then she pasted all of these images onto the purse
(a la a collage) and then coated everything with some sort of clear
acrylic. I just thought I would "share" this because it was such a nice
memory for me and I always looked up to my older sister (she's 8 years
older than I am) - she continues to be a creative person.

Hope you find the perfect color! Maybe you would want to change colors
with the fashions and seasons?? I like the idea of lime - a nice trendy
retro look.

Have fun, Renee
