Every make-up artist always gushes about how *beautiful* my skin is & ask me
what I use, they *love* my eyes & the way I apply make-up & the colors I use
(I actually showed 2 MA's how I do them, and another counter suggested I apply
for a job there), my nails and my lips & lipstick. I usually start talking
w/the MA's & they usually assume that I'm in the industry - its pretty funny!!
Well, now that I'm done tooting my own horn.... (slightly embarrased)

Trying to start a new thread... =)

I love getting my make-up done because it is *such* an ego boost! Whoever does
my make-up is always complimentary on my hair, eye shape, eye colour (green),
long lashes, and full lips. I know part of it might be to butter you up and
make the sale-- but as MLiz and Cheryl know, our Stila girl Dona is not one to
hand you a line... Either way, it still feels good to be complimented.

Anybody else??

Donna tells it like it is. She thought my eyes were easy to do because they
are "big". I usually get compliments on my skin. Its clear now after years
of drugs and a current routine of Accutane. I **love** hearing that...

Great thread! It's nice to have your make-up done when you're having a
bad day because the compliments really boost you! Like Christina, most
people comment on my hair, eye shape and colour (green, too!!)
Unfortunately, I inherited my father's very thin Native American lips and
make-up artists often mention my thin lips!

I don't see this, but *every* time I have had my makeup done by a MA
they compliment me on my eyes, not just the color (green) but the
shape/size of the lid. "You have great eyelids to put color on" is the
standard comment. Weird. And usually my nails get a mention which is
nice since I used to be a horrid nailbiter.

They always compliment me on my smooth skin and long dark eyelashes. (They
always tell me I don't need to use mascara! I do anyway.)

I never go to makeup artists anymore (they always give me such an
unnatural look!), but every time I get a manicure they compliment
me on my long, thin hands, and I *always* hear that I have the
hands of a pianist. I guess I missed my calling. ;)

Both times it was "I love doing makeup on Asian eyes because they're so
beautiful," right before I got a truly bizarre makeup job which might
have looked normal on a non-Asian person but gave me, to quote _Gone With
the Wind_, the odd lashless look of a rabbit.

When just perusing makeup counters I usually get comments on my skin,
which I'm glad is good, because I hate foundation and never use it.

The last time I had a Bobbi Brown makeover Curtis Phelps came over, stared
at my face for a few seconds and declared "She needs to groom her
eyebrows". Said as though I wasn't sitting right in front of him. An
attitude like that certainly isn't going to make me want to run to cash
register to buy a lot of their makeup!

But usually ma's compliment me on my eye color and the way I do my lips.

I don't want to be the downer on this wonderful thread that my dear friend
Christina started (hi Foppa), but I think the MA give out these compliments to
sell! I don't believe them, then again in can be my low self esteem. But the
more compliments I get the more I buy?

Just my 2cents!

I've also heard "it's easy to work on your eyes b/c they're big" more
than once. Also, long lashes; & once an Elizabeth Arden MA said
I had a perfect mouth. Did I buy anything that day? What do you think?.

I've been complimented on my skin, and told that I don't need
foundation.. so I barely wear it except as a concealer, and for
special occations.

And also my eyelashes, how well spaced they were :) haha

I'm totally with you. Those insincere compliments made by some people in
the business are truely embarrassing. Someone I know says "You have
beautiful eyes" to EVERY client she touches. My concern is also fresh
breath and nails/brushes. And I always warn my client that my hand is cold.
Other than that I occassionaly comment on people's lashes (as I have
non-existent lashes), not to suck up, but to make the client a little more
comfortable/confident. If the client is that beautiful and perfect (with
beautiful eyes, georgeous lashes, perfect complextion, full lips, shapely
cheekbones, great bone structure, hair that's beautiful enough to be on a
shampoo comercial, etc) would she need any product?

How weird... Just yesterday I was thinking that I hate it when makeup
artists and/or hair stylists compliment me on anything. To me, that is
just gauche. Like I don't know a fake compliment when I hear one! And it
always sounds like a cash register.

Skin and eyelashes. Only one make-up artist (Px) has put foundation on
me. The rest have said I don't need it.
