HI there
well I had the pleasure of meeting some great AF people at the Make-up
Artist Trade Show and Convention in Pasadena this weekend. WOW>.....
it was fun!
Did a lot of damage on the CC since many vendors were doing
discounts or freebies. What was wierd was that MAC did not sell this
year at all... nor did Make Up For Ever . Next year both plan too ..
thus some purchases I wanted to make were deepsixed from the get go!

Who was there? well Ronnie Spector, Collier Strong ( he was great.
did a nice q/a session. Turns out there were goodie bags at this one
but I didn't know it and someone had scammed a LOT of bags in my
seating area.. or else they didn't put them out!) Gary Oldman ( this
was good! he told you what it was like as the person wearing make-up
and prosthetics) and then Rick Baker fx make-up wizard.

Sat... were the first two speakers.... and I came in later to see
Strong and the AF and Lipstick Page and other friends I had coming.
I met Diane, Lofton and her daughter Lonna, Gail and her daughter
Kimberly, Stella, Sheri, Gina, Tamami, Jennifer and a bunch of others
who I forget.
We all sort of split up into groups and went shopping. Sheri, Stella
and I had lunch and then hit the vendors! Wow.. some really cool
stuff.
Hit Makeup Mania who had special gifts for all my buds who showed
up--their choice of a tank t-shirt with OBEY ME on the front and
Mistress Eyelash on the back or a Makeup Mania backpack. EVERYONE
went for the tanks and they were retailing at 15 and we got them FREE!
at the same booth, Eva from Makeup Mania had a bunch of vendors. 20%
off too!
She had her hottest new vendors come and show off their products and
it was fun to meet these new people!
Facewaves cleansing cloth... a non cleanser cloth that will take off
ALL make-up with just water and it lasts 4-6 months with just gently
cleansing of the cloth.
VERY cool.
you can see this at facewaves.com. I bought two. One for me and one
for a friend on the East Coast who I was shopping for. She shall
remain nameless to protect the innocent!

Also Star Cosmetics this is a VERY cool line
it is a modular system of nice color cosmetics that is just
launching. It comes in singles and you can put together your very own
kits.. a la Nars face kits with lip colors, shadows, powder
foundation, concealer, mascara and more! VERY cool black packaging and
I love the texture of the shadows and lip colors. looks very much like
Nars meets Mercier in terms of color and palettes. met the creator
and she is FABULOUS.. such a great person. We both swear we know each
other from somewhere.. so we must have met before.. we just don't
remember where!
Anyway... she has a website too and you can check out Makeup Mania for
this line. I got the powder foundation bec it evened out my skintone
nicely! I like that the cases snap shut with a magnetic closure. I
love the two red toned lipcolors. VERY Cool colors
( www.starbeautyspot.com)

Also there was a woman selling designer bandaids. they benefitted
breast cancer research too. There was a special on them... and so if
you bought 3 you got the 4th free. VERY cool so I bought 3 for my
daughter and of course got the fourth! I got 2 different assortments
and then one all silver holograms. My kid said they were featured in
Teen Magazine!

Got the scoop on Dermanu from Makeup Mania's Eva. It is a new
exfoliating machine that is sort of a super micro dermabrasion machine
you can use at home. VERY cool. She was demoing on the hands and I
liked the feel. Not harsh or rough.. just gentle!

from Makeup Mania I started down the row.
Saw MUFE who was taking names for their new mail order catalog!! also
did you know they had a toll free 800 number for orders from the Soho
store? I didn't... but they will ship IF You know what you want
exactly. I was so bummed bec I wanted to buy stuff from MUFE and had
my heart set on their mascara. sigh... and foundation too. Found out
that Fred Segal Essentials in Santa Monica will be carrying it!!
yippee. a local outlet!

Saw the new Facefinity and Lashfinity from Max Factor. They gave us
samples of each to try! So I grabbed another one for someone else who
remains nameless!

next hit Senna and saw Eugenia Weston who I know and have
interviewed!! She is so nice!! Just one of the nicest people I have
ever met! I got to see the new fall colors. I saw the Fall cream
shadow quad. ( If I recall correctly, I think Lofton--Pamigirl-- and
her daughter did significant damage at this counter as did my friend
Glenna!) I got a couple things for my makeup junkie bud and ordered a
couple more for the next day pick-up and got the Senna cheeky cream
blush that is also a dup for lip stains. I got the new pomegranite
shade. it is a berry that is hinted with purple and brown and still
red. lovely sheer that works on lips, eyes and cheeks!! Seriously
creamy and yet sheer! nice texture.

Went to Trucco/Sebastian and that was cool. Wanted to buy the one of
the show specials but they sold out completely! bummed ! it was a
great deal of about 35 dollars of product for 10 bucks ( see I TOLD
You it was a great show!)

Saw Illuminaire foundations. This is a new company! they have
manufactured a new foundation with a micronized zince sunblock that is
spf 30 in it and is natural with natural pigments. They have two
formulas.. one for dry skin, one for oily. They also have a concealer,
and eye colors on the way. VERY neat neat neat. I tried it on my hand.
Will try the sample that they gave me. I want to check out their
website.. for more info. but from what I gather this is totally new
technology and they beat any competition by at least a year! they have
samples they can send you too!
illuminarecosmetics.com

Went to a couple other neat places. Saw MAC but no products to sell,
but if you filled out their survey they gave you a free mascara... so
that was cool!!

Went to the Naimies booth. they had Mercier, Bobbi Brown and a bunch
of other lines but they weren't selling product right then. They would
take the order and ship to you !
Bummed out again! I need some instant gratification here!
checked out the Ve Neill line of brushes as well as Cinema Secrets
brushes and products.
Also saw Jane Iredale products as well as Taut Cosmetics.
Lofton and Glenna did damage here as well as Jennifer I do believe.
Taut just came out with concealer and a very fluffy cream makeup that
has nothing bad in it I can tell and that looks and feels really nice
on the skin.

Covered the great fx booths too. Saw Richard Snell at work, Michael
Westmore and some others. VERY cool demos there. The international
avant garde make-up competition was on Sat, Historical character on
Sunday . Saw the first and second place winners of the avant garde as
well as all the entries for avante garde and they were so cool. One
was a peacock. the other was a mermaid!! VERY VERY awesome! Saw them
closer later!

Went out into the hall to scoop everyone up for the after show
cocktail party a couple blocks away. Sheri had told me I *had* to go
because I missed it last year and everyone that I know on the MA
magazine chat room asked me WHY I didn't go. So I just had everyone
come with! We did do a pit stop at this amazing massage booth outside
with those motorized massagers! wow.. that was so relaxing! I really
needed it. I felt a lot more energized after because of it.

Before we left, I kept circling back to Make-up Mania booth to catch
stray people and also check on anyone I missed. The cell phones were
flying!

Btw. Tamami is so sweet... Diane is totally cool! Lofton and her
daughter Lonna were totally make-up addicted and FUN!!!!! Dellapina...
is as always.. Dellapina and a blast!
We just had a great time shopping and comparing notes.

So off we trekked off to Moose Mcgillicuddys.. for drinks and food!
It was neat. but not a lot of room since suddenly the place seemed
inundated with MA convention people . We had nine of us plus others!
The avante garde make up winners with their models still in costume
where there.

Btw... I saw Collier Strong. very cool talk. he did a q/a on how to
get started in the editorial /fashion MA biz!

anyway.. Michael Key the editor of Make-up Artist Magazine and Show
director came in. I have known Michael for about 3 years now..
interviewed him. he and my SO did some work together. wonderfully
talented and we have a lot of things in common esp Star Trek
miscellaneous info
anyway. he sat at our table talking while he was waiting for a large
booth to clear for the winners. we got to the restaurant at 5:45 and
we left -leaving a few strays behind--- about 8pm
just talking and talking and talking!
when we finally left, we took the longer way back.. and my bud Stella
headed off to her car while the rest of us stood in the parking lot
and talked!
I didn't get home till 9 and I was speeding all the way with my new
cd player cranked
I was buzzing.. finally passed out...

got up at 6 to get ready for the Gary Oldman talk and couldn't post
bec I had no time.
btw. I wore leather pants both days and it was just fine. I wasn't
too warm. It was nice weather in Pasadena!!

I left by 8:30 and hit the door of the show at 9:15... to see Eva at
Make-up Mania and see who arrived.. which was my bud Glenna. Didn't
hear from Lofton... she thought she was coming back. Did see Diane
again with Randee and I Wei.. ( Hi guys!) I didn't get to see them
long bec I found them JUST as I was leaving. (I had to go home early
bec the family hadn't seen me all day on Sat!!) I was disappointed
in not spending more time with I Wei and Randee. I hope you three had
a good time!!I
did spend a lot of time with Glenna
helped her do serious damage at Star Cosmetics, the facewaves, also
Senna ( mucho bucks) , Taut Cosmetics ( also mucho bucks) as well as
pick up the stuff for my NY bud
;-))))))))))
Talked to Shawn Haynes of Girl Cosmetics. We go *way * back and he
was so great. Showed us the new fall stuff.. the line extensions to
come *(KILLER!) This guy has it ALL planned out. plus he is so cute
and has a great smile. He is a great ad for the quintessential Calif
guy!

I went and hit a couple other places quickly... and showed her what
to check out. Gary Oldman was running around the hall the entire time
signing autographs.
he isn't as cute in person but he seems nice. he has kids . he talked
about them. one kid came up in his talk and asked a really good
question and took him by surprise!

anyway... I was so glad to meet everyone... Diane, I Wei, Tamami,
Randee, Gail, finally to see you all after all these emails and
months of posting! How cool! Lofton and I had been exchanging emails
and posts for a while and I was really pleased to meet her and Lonna
too!
Glenna, Stella, Sheri, and Jennifer I knew already and we have
fun..... all the time! or is that trouble we try to get into!!
anyways.. I had picked up a goodie bag from the AM talk and it had
cool stuff like mini tattoo kit, some hair care samples and other
neat stuff. I scored samples from illuminare
and some other great stuff. I came home two days in a row with bags
chock full of goodies. Used the face wave cloth today. VERY cool
thing-- I love the way it took the make-up off my face. talked fall
colors with Senna, Girl Cosmetics, Taut, Mac, Naimies, and Star
Cosmetics as well as Illuminare and Trucco.

So this was fun time! I hope that everyone who went from
alt.fashion and the Lipstick Page had fun! I know all my Make-up
Artist friends did. I was so glad to see so many people.

Next year... you have to promise to come! so start saving pennies now!
it will be about the same time next year in Pasadena!!
;-))

They also carry MUFE at the Koreatown Plaza. It's in the biggest makeup store
on the first floor. Just a FYI. =)

Stevie, thanks for arranging this! makeupmania was easily my favorite
booth at the entire show...those folks are wonderful. I cannot believe
they knew my name from my orders.

the lashfinity is AMAZING. I love it. it's not for those who want lots
of thickening, but I don't like thickening mascaras. it will not smudge
at ALL on me, and I rubbed my eyes a lot over the 24 hours I was
wearing it, since I forgot all about it and wore it through my plane
ride home.

> Saw Illuminaire foundations. This is a new company!

I bought the portofino foundation here...the lightest color, matches me
perfectly. it has THE most amazing texture and should last me forever.
you can really get a full spectrum of coverage from this product...full
to sheer, depending on how much you blend. the concealer sample they
gave me should last about 6 months, based on the incredible
pigmentation! it's powerful stuff, but not at all cakey, does NOT
migrate to my pores or fine lines. one of my favorite products of the
whole show!

> Diane is totally cool!

I know! she's the best!!! ;-)

seriously, I enjoyed meeting everyone. I spent Saturday with Jennifer
D. and Tamami and we had a great time. met up Sunday with RandeeFW and
I-Wei (maidmoron) and I love them! I'm going to marry them both. Lofton
and Lonna are absolutely gorgeous, and I hope Lonna starts posting here
soon.

and I am exhausted. I bought tons more stuff from all over and spent a
LOT of time with Dana Nye, who I'm also going to marry, but I will have
to post about it and any of my other engagements (I'll probably also
marry everyone at makeupmania as well) later.

p.s. Stevie, nice leather pants!

My sister (fellow AFer My), cousin Denise, and I also went on Saturday. It was
sort of a last minute decision, and we're happy we decided to go. (Only sorry
we didn't get a chance to say "hi" to all of you.) We got there sort of late.
. .around noon. We were VERY overwhelmed at first. So much to see!! ;)

We spent the most time at Senna. In fact, my cousin Denise even got a quick
mini-makeover by Eugenia Weston. Denise is totally new to the whole makeup
thing (we're corrupting her!), so she was completely giddy. ;) We also picked
up the samples at Max Factor. I see someone has already posted and raved about
LashFinity (which is only in Europe now), so I'm anxious to try it out. Maybe
this waterproof mascara will be the cure for my raccoon eyes!!! I'm sending
out my Illuminaire postcard tomorrow for my foundation sample. I hope it's a
good match! I regret not buying the Trucco palette with the five iridescent
white eyeshadows! When I saw it, I thought, "Omigosh! Just like that Dior
Whites quint!!" but something made me pass it up. Now I wish I hadn't. Darn.
BTW, did you see the Maximus Adjust-a-Curl demonstrations? It's a long velcro
strip that can be adjusted to form different size rollers for your hair.
Seemed really nifty. We didn't buy, but we may have to check it out one day at
beautycollection.com.

Our favorite part of the day was Collier Strong and the Avant Garde Makeup
Awards. We got to the Main Stage early to make sure we got good seats.
Although I wish Collier talked more about application and specific products, I
was fascinated by learning about the biz! He is SO VERY cool too. Much cooler
than I imagine St. Kevyn is! ;) BTW, the goodie bags were the same that you
picked up later. . .tattoos, hair samples, concealer, etc. We were bummed we
missed Ronnie Specter's talk though. How was it? Was it a Q and A session
too? BTW, she looks FANTASTIC! What do you think. . . any work done? ;) Oh,
and all the Avant Garde makeup models looked spectacular. I loved the blue
mermaid. . .that color was blended so beautifully!

Stevie, here's a weird question. . .did you have lunch at the Sheraton? We
were sitting next to a table of 3 women who had bags from the trade show and I
noticed one of them had on leather pants. As soon as I noticed, I thought it
could be you but then again it could be anybody. So I chickened out and didn't
say a word! I've had that "AFers are among us" feeling before at department
stores, but this time I KNEW you guys would be there. Still, I felt weird just
going up to someone. ;) If it was you, what a hoot!! Anyway, we were the
table of 3 with the Naimies bags on one of the chairs. I was in dark denim
jeans and a burgundy t-shirt. . .oh, and I was the one scarfing down the
cheeseburger (I was SOOOO hungry!)! ;)

I must agree. They told me it would last through tears, and it sure did.
Lots.

Agree again. I put this on at 7 a.m. and it lasted through the entire day,
even in my air conditioning-impaired car. When I got really, really hot, I
could feel my skin tingling unpleasantly, but I think the fact that I had a bad
sunburn contributed.

I would buy and recommend the Illuminaire foundation in a heartbeat.
