I had the same problem!! I longed for this FOREVER and ordered it from
Sephora last Xmas...gorgeous in the pan but does nothing on me :-( and yet I
still can't bear to swap it away...

I had one of the Nars quads, the one with Night Porter and Night
watchamacallit--I swapped it away a long time ago. The glitter didn't show
up on those shades, either. They were beautiful in the pan, but
invisible on the eyelid. IMO, UD or Hard Candy make much better glitter
eyeshadows than Nars.
Still, I keep Night Fairy. I love the little compact with the great big
mirror, and the shadow is nice on top of other shades.

All the Nars "Night" shadows are hopeless, IMHO. I had three of them (Night
Porter, Night Fairy and Night Star) and swapped them all away because while
they looked oh-so-pretty in the compact, they are extremely "eh" on the
lids.
My glitter guru friend Hansie suggests that you can make your own glitter
shadow, using a crushed matte shadow mixed with fine glitter from the art
supply store. I haven't tried it but it looks fabulous on her - just like
the Nars ones *should* have looked.

I actually experimented with this tonight...WnW makes the best
microfine glitter, almost like a powder. I dipped my brush in some She
Laq and swept it across my lid, and THAT is what I think Night Fairy
should have looked like!!! Very sparkly!!

Yup. Same result. But I like the heavily pigmented shadows in the Nars
Palettes I have, even if the glitter doesn't show. . .they are the
staple of my "smoky eye" look.
I also didn't try it with a shadow base on, so that may make a
difference too.
xoxo,
There is so much inexpensive cosmetic grade glitter out there, that it's
foolish to use the art store variety.
Please be careful, as you can really damage your eyes with the wrong type
glitters.

I have almost all of the Night series eyes shadows by NARS and the only
one that actually sparkles on me when applied is Night Porter (which is
greenish-black with green glitter). I too am disappointed in these and
wore Night Flight just a few weeks ago (which is bluish-black with blue
glitter) but of course the glitter didn't show up - the shadow just looked
black.

i have this and like it. one has to remember that all those nars glitter
pencils came out right when the whole glitter craze was just starting (or
re-starting). i think if the company had realized exactly how much glitter we
wanted they would have made them more sparkely. since then there are a ton of
better products out for a serious glitter effect. i still use nars night
porter, but only for work or some event where the super glittery look isn't
appropriate.
