Have platforms gone out of style? I see them on clearance everywhere.

Where??? Tell me, I'll buy out the stock!!!

I'm a firm believer in that you shouldn't buy or not buy something
depending on whether it's deemed in style or not. I buy things I like,
a lot of which is on sale because no one else will dare to wear it! The
platforms you see on clearence are probably just winter shoes and have
nothing to do with the being "out of style". I just bought black
leather, zip-up, platform go-go boots for $29 because they're winter
shoes and they're making room for spring stuff. I've been searching for
these exact boots for about 6 months and the wait finally paid off!

yeah, ditto. I got two pairs of platform shoes last week (I think I posted
about this when I got them): one a lime green loafer-style and the other
blue shiny patent-leather clog style (kind of hard to explain but seriously
funky). I was thrilled almost to the point of weeping when I saw them - I
wear a size 2 and have a really hard time finding shoes that fit my feet
that look like they were made for a grown up. I've always loved funky,
different looking shoes, probably because I had to wear orthopaedic shoes
when I was a child (waaaaaay before doc martens were cool - and the ones I
had to wear were *white* [ugh!]). So as daytripper sez...

Because I'm tiny I can rarely find shoes and clothes that are "hip" *and*
actually look good on me. So if the outfit is flattering (or if the shoe
fits) I go for it. And go for the more trendy accessories and makeup to
even everything out. I refuse to be a fashion victim, wearing something
that doesn't suit me but is really "in". (not that I'm accusing anyone on
alt.fashion of doing that or having the mentality that how "in" something
is should or does take precedence over whether it looks good, but I've
seen it happen. especially at the mall. a lot.)

I guess this fits into the whole personal style thread of a couple days
back, too, that I didn't respond to because I was uh, medicated due to my
back injury. I promise as soon as my back is better I'll shut up about it
and not be such a talker! :-)

No, those weren't winter shoes, they were PLATFORM SANDALS. Today I got a
Victoria's Secret catalog, and the only shoes they have on clearance are
platforms. Here's what they have: ankle wrap sandal with thin double
straps, 2" platform (black, sand, teal, purple, orange) for $29.99 (used to
be $49), Chinoiserie Platform sandals in sand or red for $19 (used to be
$49), Velvet Platform sandals (brown or black) for $19 (used to be ($49),
Suede Platform sandals (black, brown or red) for $29.99 (used to be $49).
They are also selling bunch of other sandals without platforms (with heels
or flat), NONE OF WHICH are on clearance.

I also noticed platforms being on sale in other stores, but never thought
of them going out of style until I saw this catalog.

I don't think they have gone out of style because I recently bought a pair of
platform sandals (a Prada type by the brand Greater L.A.) that had just arrived
in an upscale trendy boutique.

I think that platforms have become such a staple of women's wardrobes that
it will be a long time before they go out out style. I think they have
become something that is so common and so many people people wear them
that you couldn't even consider them stylish or unstylish. For most women
I know they have become a wardrobe staple and I don't think many people
are willing to give that up.

Hi all... my $.02.....

What we wear or don't wear at any point in time is our personal 'style'...

What's currently available in the stores is deemed 'fashion'.....

If these two phenomenae happen to coincide, wonderful..... If not, I know
what I look good in, and will wear it whenever I darn well please...

Platform shoes with high stiletto heels are a part of my personal 'style',
with lots of comments from admirers to reinforce my mental image... So,
Carla will stay with platforms, fashion be damned... Thank you very much.
