Also, makeup artist Ruby Hammer and PR person Millie something have launched
there own makeup line "Ruby and Millie" (how imaginative). Looks like it'll
be around £10 for a lipstick. Just what the world needs, another designer
makeup line! Why can't the powers that be invest in creating a fun, good
quality line, with good, imaginative packaging, nearer the lower end of the
spectrum? Even with the possible costs involved in developing high quality
products, y'know, blendable eyeshadows, wide spectrum of foundation shades
etc it can't be THAT expensive. The only reason it hasn't been done by now,
is, I fear, that bosses love their obscene markups too much. So what would
I want to see in this low-end line?

Blendable, wearable shades, that cater for ALL women, even those with
ethnic/very pale/unusual skintones.

Packaging that's imaginative, and looks expensive.

Counter staff, who are aware of the stock, and know how to sell what, and to
whom.

The option to buy eyeshadows/blush in pans, so it's easier to fit them into
my holders.

Lipsticks that are nice colours, that last without being flaky/drying and
have no icky scent.

Is there anything else?

How bout wide availibility, *small* sizes, and a commitment to "unusual"
colors with high pigmentation. I keep finding that except for basic off
white eyeshadow, I do *not* use it up. Blush is always about 20x larger
than I need. Lipstick takes forever to use up. I've never used up a
nailpolish. Powder, foundation, and maybe concealor get used up albeit
very slowly. Lip liners just don't get used up. I think maybe in 2 years
I'll have used up my Prestige Sand lip liner...

Wide availibility is fairly obvious. About all you can find out here in
the boonies is Clinique, Lauder, Lancome etc, and L'Oreal, Revlon, Max
Factor and Cover Girl. I have to search out Jane, Prestige, and
Perscriptives and never mind about finding more exotic brands like MAC
or Nat Robbins.

The unusual colors thing kind of goes with the colors for all
ethnicities. A pale, cool, blonde can wear blue eyeshadow and look
stunning, while the same color on a woman with olive skin will look
garish. The lovely cinnamony brown that the olive skinned woman wears
will dissapear on the chocolate skin of a black woman, and her vibrant
purple eyeshadow may well overwhelm everyone else. The high pigmentation
isn't a big thing if you're mostly doing sheer washes of color, but when
you want to line your eyes in metallic silver, or contour with an
unusual green, the higher levels of pigment pay off. And as a cool toned
person, those unusual colors really pay off. Brown makes me look dead,
blue and green can add just the right touch to my look for the day.

I agree with this. Sometimes even the sales clerks are apologetic at
the sizes of some of these products: I just bought BeneFit's Boing
concealer and it comes in a huge pot, larger than a Bobbi Brown
eyeshadow. I wouldn't use that much concealer in 3 years, and it will
have gone bad long before then.
I've also never used up a bottle of nail polish; I get tired of it and
throw it out when it's about half used up. I've also never used up a
lipstick.
The only things I do use up are a few favorite eyeshadows that come in
sets (so they are small anyway), my favorite cake eyeliner, Studio Fix,
and mascara, which doesn't really get used up either, it just starts to
clump up and I replace it.
