is there a list anywhere of the Wodehousian aliases on this newsgroup?

Not really, although I suppose you could go into the google archives and
do a search for noms list from four or five years ago. Or you might
even have to go back farther than that.

Young Bonzo Travers was the Keeper of the Noms in the Olden Days and
published an updated list every month but when he retired nobody else
stepped forward to take on the job. As a result nowadays it's more or
less Liberty Hall.

Aha, I had been wondering about that myself. The good ones were all taken,
but at one time I was determined to take on a nom, even if I had to be a
second footman, or even somebody's dog. Then the updates ceased to appear,
so I gave it up.

I, too, have wondered, and thought that mine was sufficiently obscure
to have not been taken. Never could have imagined that much activity
here! However, I do see a "Rocky Rockmettler" on the list... I've been
meaning to look into some of Freddie's co-worker's histories, but
haven't got around to it. Could it be that Rocky is my doppelganger?

Is there any interest in maintaining the list? I recognize many of the
noms, but how many have left the fold? New list, perhaps?

Well there is a Long Island poet called Rockmetteller "Rocky" Todd in
the Bertie Wooster short story "The Aunt and the Sluggard". He isn't
known for his high work-rate though, so I wouldn't think Rocky could be
the doppelganger of a gung-ho dog biscuit salesman.

It occurs to your humble prestidigitateur that since the old system of
registering one-off noms has gone the way of Aunt Dahlia's girlish
complexion it is pretty much Liberty Hall in a.f.w.

I haven't posted to this group in more
years than I care to think about, but
it's a rum thing (albeit gratifying,
if that's the word I want) to see my
nom Eustace, Claude N., still on the
list.

I think I'll post my parody again. Hell,
it's been fifteen years or so.

I say! Same here- haven’t posted in this group since, oh, around 1998, give or take a decade. And there I am, with that rusty old surname that went the way of Bertie’s favorite checkered trousers. It’s heartening. And rummy at the same time.

This old group kept me afloat. I even made some in-person chums from among its ranks.
