I know it has been beaten to death for years, but for those of our
members who still like to collect all magazines, articles, etc. with
news about Winona, the special People magazine - The Scandals that
Rocked America - mentions Winona's shoplifting on page 72. ----- With
some of the horrendous crimes listed in the magazine, it still annoys me
that a magazine like People still considers Winona's crime, news to
print. ----- The magazine will be on newsstands until March 19, 2010 for
those of you who would like to read the magazine. ----- :) Rusty

What is your take on why Winona did it, Rusty?

Was it just boredom? The dare? Excitement?

Or was it something about drugs? I h eard that all her money was being
controlled so she couldn't buy more drugs without ready cash. So she
would shoplift and then sell the clothes for cash to buy drugs.

What about the needles, the prescripton drugs all in different names
from different locations in her purse? Was that blown out of
porportion?

I'm not trying to bad mouth Winona, I do enjoy her movies and think
she's adorable. Just trying to understand what happened.

Reasons that Winona did it ???? It's anyones guess. ----- Maybe it is a
combination of everything you said OddBALL. ----- The strangest thing
Winona did after she was nabbed outside of Sak's and taken back into the
store was to give five different reasons why she did it to to several
people whiie being detained. ----- 1. "I thought my assistant paid for
the items". said to Colleen Rainey and Ernie Amaya. ----- 2. "The
director of "Shopgirl" told me to do it". said to Colleen Rainey.
----- 3. "I'm not working with stupid services" said to Shirley Warren.
----- 4. "I'm rehearsing for my part in "White Jazz" said to Colleen
Rainey. ----- 5. "I stole the items as of a way of getting into
character for a movie. I wanted to see how it felt to shoplift". said to
Mark Parker. ----- Why would she do that at all, under the influence of
drugs or not, which just leads to more questions to an ancient crime
that should be forgotten, but the tabloids still beat it to death,
Afterall her felonies were dropped to misdemeanors, a few years later
which just makes the whole incident something less serious than the
other crimes commited which were printed in the copy of People "Scandals
That Rocked America" ----- Rusty

...Better than being known as "hit-and-run Hallie (Berry)" and more
likeable too. ;-)

It's interesting that you and I can recall Halle Berry's felony hit and
run accident at about the same time that Winona was arrested for
shoplifting. D. Stussy. But People magazine doesn't even mention the hit
and run in the issue of "Scandals that Rocked America" ??? ---- A felony
hit and run accident is very much more serious than shoplifting. But
what do I know. People magazine called the shots on their recent issue
about how serious crimes were in the magazine. ----- :) Rusty

I personally love that Winona is a counter-culture, well read,
gorgeous, insomniac, psychiatric head case, drug-addicted, serial
monogamous, rock-star groupie. As Paris Hilton might say, "That's
hot."

I don't care that her "scandal" is mentioned in rags like People Mag
ad nauseam. I don't care if her "crime" is so minor that it doesn't
bare comparison with the Berrys and Grayhearts of the world. Every
reminder of that episode in her life is welcome. Frankly, that episode
was a huge turn-on. Almost as much as watching her smooch Jennifer
Aniston. At the time, I remember hating the DA for turning the screws
on her, especially after her Polly Klaas efforts and $200K reward
offer. She should have gotten amnesty just for that, but hey, if you
don't want to do the time, don't do the crime, eh?
