I've written quite a bit about MGP, but it's worth noting that the Junior
Eurovision Song Contest for 2009 will be held this Saturday, November 21,
in Kiev, Ukraine.

http://www.junioreurovision.tv/

There are 13 nations participating this year, but unfortunately, only
three acts are boys; all solos. They are...

The Netherlands: Ralf Mackenbach
14-year-old Ralf performs his tribute to tap dancing, "Click Clack".

Ukraine: Andranik Aleksanyan
11-year-old Andranik performs "Try Topoli, Try Surmy"

Belarus: Yury Demidovich
I can't seem to find Yuri's age. He looks about 10 or 11. He does this
thing called "Volshebnyi Krolik". I wouldn't exactly call it "singing a
song"; it's more like a weird piece of performance art. Very trippy. If
you remember the buzzing bees from last year, this is weirder.

The live final is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 21 at
20:15 CET, 1915 UTC, which is 1:15 PM EST. I haven't yet worked out how
to watch it live, but I'm pretty sure some of the 13 national
broadcasters will have live streams running.

I've found at least one possible live stream for tomorrow's Junior
Eurovision Song Contest:

http://www.1tv.com.ua/jesc/live.php

It's from the Ukraine, and the quality isn't great. As I post this,
they're streaming live backstage from the second dress rehearsal.

I miscalculated the time zone difference; the actual start time is 2:15 pm
Eastern.

Additional possible live stream from Belarus:

I believe their official channel is http://www.youtube.com/junioreurovision
.

That other one is a fan site. But, as usual, the fan sites have way more
stuff posted!

The winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for 2009 is...

RALF! From The Netherlands.

And I have to say, Ralf kicked ass! A great song, a great performance.
The crowd loved it.

(Sorry, but it was the only Youtube video I could actually find.)

Other performances...

Ukraine: Andranik Aleksanyan (5th place)

The hometown boy makes a respectable finish. I'm not sure a folk song is
the way to win this competition, but he sure has a booming voice to make up
for his lack of stature.

Belarus: Yury Demidovich (9th place)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t04dL4-71E

Happy birthday, Yury! Apparently, his birthday was a couple days before
the competition.

I would have thought this would have been voted higher based on weirdness
alone. But he sure seemed to be enjoying himself. It wasn't really much
of a song, though.

Russia and Armenia tied for second; I didn't think much of either of their
songs. Belgium was fourth; I liked her song. Sweden took sixth; I liked
her and thought she should have placed higher. Malta should have been dead
last; that big girl looked like she was about 24!
