The MY DOG SKIP boys~

WOW----sure was a good movie.
Heartwarming tearjerker with very good acting not only by Muniz but Kavin Bacon
& Diane Lane as well.
But what really stands out are the newcomers who play the neighborhood bullies.
I was totally enthralled by the enthusiasm of the character Spit played by
young actor CODY LINLEY. Now THAT was indeed a unique distinctive voice.
Aside from his current role in NATALIE PORTMAN's WHERE THE HEART IS film, does
anyone know anything else about him? Has he appeared in any other roles or
been spotted in any TV Commercials?
Nonetheless, I am sure we will be seeing more of this boy in the future.
Also, the main slightly chubby bully was impressive as well.
I noted one of the boys (the dark skinned one) to resemble Anakin Skywalker's
friend from the movie STAR WARS Phantom Menace---but doesn't seem to be
according to the cast list.
Also, want to comment on how amazed I was at the resemblence of the dude they
picked for FRANKIE MUNIZ character when he is around 16 or 17 leaving to go off
to the services. He almost looked the exact way FRANKIE does now (also near to
GABRIEL DAMON as well.). Not quite Frankie but almost considering they
practically had no idea of Frankie's future looks of today way back when this
film was initially made (judging from Frankie's looks, it looks to have been
filmed at least a year before Malcolm In The Middle---if not more. Sure took
an extensive long time to be released.) In that aspect, I would imagine all of
the neighborhood bullies are older as well.
For those who haven't see the film, you must do so before it leaves theaters
soon. Can't wait to buy the DVD.

10 year old Cody Linley got his first acting job by accident, but it’s no
accident now that he’s worked so much. His first job came when he went with a
relative, who is an acting teacher, to a casting office. The casting director
was on a break and spotted Cody, asked him to try out for and cast him for the
commercial spot.
Cody has appeared on film in My Dog Skip, with Kevin Bacon, Diane Lane and
Frankie Muniz, and Where the Heart Is, with Natalie Portman and Ashley Judd. My
Dog Skip is his favorite project he’s worked on to date. "I loved doing My
Dog Skip because it was a really fun set with a lot of cool friends. We all
sent swimming and hung out together after work everyday. It was great!"
In addition to feature films, commercials, industrials and stage work, Cody has
appeared on television in Walker, Texas Ranger, Wishbone and Good Morning
Texas. He also appeared in the CBS movie-of-the-week Still Holding On with
Clint Black and Lisa Hartman-Black.
When Cody isn’t working, he lives in Dallas, Texas with his parents and four

I'm glad you finally got to see this! I like it a lot, too, as you
could tell from the review I posted awhile back.
I also liked the 3 neighborhood bullies; the one who really caught MY
eyes was the dark-haired one who didn't say much at all. The only
thing I disagree with you about is Kevin Bacon's performance. I
didn't find it very good at all.
Anyway, I heartily second your recommendation of this movie, and I too
can't wait until the DVD is available!

Yes, that was the one I was totally sure was Anakin's little friend in The
Phantom Menace & came home to search IMDB to see if true---only to find out it
wasn't. Others might not agree but I thought there was a slight resemblence.

Wait, I said "good acting". You said "performance". "Acting" can mean
practically one thing but "Performance" can mean more than one thing. Hmmm,
let me try to analyze some of what I meant.
Character-wise, I didnt like the way his role was written in beginning of the
film---but I suppose it was necessary in order to give the film more
depth---even though this was based on & taken from a true story with characters
already in existence. The young person I went to see the movie with (niece)
was a HUGE Kevin Bacon fan. When I saw how mean he was to the boy & wife in
the beginning, I thought---Oh my gosh---this is going to ruin it for this young
fan who idolizes Kevin. But his character came around later on and was
eventually a nice person and more understanding father. I think in the
beginning they tried to show him as a character who had psychological problems
because of what the war did to him. Eventually, he came around & is the one
who got the neighbor teen (also a psychological victim of the war) to deal with
what happened to him. So somehow or another, we missed the dad's personality
change from the beginning of the film in his mean stage toward the middle of
the film during one of the many time transitions. I think we were suppose to
assume that it was the dog Skip that made him mellow down some. When the dog
trashed the house, I thought---Oh gosh, he's going to want to start his thing
about wanting to get rid of the dog & give him away---but he never did. He
eventually accepted the dog for what he was.
Frankie's line saying how his dog Skip changed the boy's life forever in many
ways---I think the changing of his dad may have been one of the ones we were
just suppose to assume.
But aside from all that, what I really liked about Kevin & Diane's roles was
the fact that these 2 were once big stars & they humbled themselves to let "the
boy" (a complete unknown child actor back then) be the star of this film.
They more or less stood to the side to let Frankie be the one who shine's in
the spotlight of this film reducing their roles to only "supporting"
characters. There's many adult stars with big names (even though there's have
diminished a bit back then when the film was shot) that would not have done
that.
But "acting"-wise, the role Kevin was playing was written a certain way---& he
acted the role exactly the way it was written. I, myself, have never been a
fan of the phoney-FOOTLOOSE types of roles and other's he's played where they
are written to be bigger than real life. This was the first role I have ever
seen of him where he seemed more human with faults.
Funny thing is this---I never one time throughout the whole entire film
recognized Diane Lane.
I didnt figure it out until hours after I got home. Then it was----"I KNEW I
had seen that mother somewhere before !!"
When I saw the opening credits, I was thinking Diane Ladd instead.
