It's been nearly a month since I got a computer up and running for a
try at the 1996 videogame Steven Spielberg's Director's Chair. After
getting used to the early-generation interface graphics, plus the fact
that completed films from this program originally had a chance in a
contest (for which the winners got some sort of red-carpet party)
while today it's not even certain that one's efforts would so much as
last a day on Youtube, my opinion is that the main people interested
in this "game" would be fans of Quentin Tarantino himself.

Tarantino's scenes -- which are many & varied -- have a hilarious
aspect to them which are not to be missed by the completist. Even if
it means running out of time (or going over budget) during the filming
phase, it's worth it just to check out each different angle in a
scene. Not only that, but the game gives you a choice between dramatic
and comedic versions of the one basic storyline...and the comedy stuff
is a total crackup.

Just for further background; this Director's Chair product was done
while Pulp Fiction was still fresh off the boat. Posters of PF &
Reservoir Dogs show up on the wall in the background, presumably to
help introduce the audience to a funny guy who was, at that time, not
quite as well known as he would become in later years.

The game and its film clips run great on the Windows ME, which I
believe was more compatible with 3.1 than might be the more recent, NT-
based operating systems. If somebody here gets the chance to check it
out on a newer system, could they report on how it worked out?

Isn't there some site, called scummv or something, that provides
downloads to run cross-platform and older games?

Thanks.
