Do lightsabers have a stun setting?

If not, how come there aren't more maimed padawan?

They don't have a stun setting but, if I remember rightly, Padawans such as
those instructed by Yoda in AOTC use a different kind of lightsabre with
some sort of saftey feature or lower intensity blade.

Yep. Youngling Jedi initially train with lower power lightsabres that cause
a sting (similar to Luke's training orb in Episode IV) rather than actually
cutting.

You obviously never played lightsaber battles as a kid (before Hasbro made
toy versions) ... a torch IS a lightsaber, so the sfaer version must be a
torch with no batteries. ;-)
