It's here - Sonic The Comic issue one hundred sixty six! Woohoo!
It's got a story about the Chaos Emeralds, (which I much prefer to the
Super Emeralds for some reason,) AND a story about Supersonic!!

But first - SPOILER WARNING!

If you haven't read the issue yet, and you're going to, and you don't
want me to spoil it for you, don't read on!

Go on! Go away of you don't want spoilers!

Hmm.. I guess you do want spoilers.

Chances are you're an American who can't get the comic and so wants to
know as much about it as possible.

Am I right?

Well?

Am I?

Anyway. Back to the review then.

Yep, that's definately enough spoiler warning.

Okay then!

SONIC: Best Of Enemies
Kitching/Elson Story

This new three-part story opens with a WONDERFUL picture of several
members of the Drakon Empire standing a strange cauldron, the smoke from
which is forming a hazy shape of Sonic's head. There's various skulls
hanging down from the ceiling and green smoke everywhere - and the queen
of the Drakons, (who looks like Mr Fry's older sister... Or Mr Fry
himself in drag...) seems very excited that the "Vapours of Destiny"
have showed Sonic to them.
Emperor Ko-Door (the one who put Sonic on trial to fight
Knuckles Metallix) is present, and pretends to never have met Sonic. It
turns out that Drakos is divided into three (or possibly more) major
Houses. The House of Learning, the House of Magic, (where Sister Haggra
comes from, SisHag being the leader figure who I referred to as
"queen",) and wherever Emperor Ko-Door is from, and I seem to remember
this as being the House of Justice. It should be, anyway. *B^J
So they try to figure out who this blue figure is. But they
can't. Nobpdy knows. Except Ko-Door, and he's not about to tell anyone
he put their best hope for finding the "Ancient Mystery" on trial. Yep,
the Ancient Mystery. The Mystic Signs are clear - Sonic has the answer
to the Ancient Mystery - he knows the secret of the mighty Chaos
Emeralds. Ooh! So the origin of the Chaos Emeralds has something to do
with the Drakon Empire?
They are determined to find Sonic and, uhm.. "Have" him. As
Sister Haggra so bluntly puts it. Sonic meanwhile is fighting Badniks in
the Emerald Hill Zone, and he's thrashing them. Flickies are flying in
all directions. (Robotnik uses only Flickies in his Badniks now. They're
small, to leave room for more working parts, yet they have as much life-
force as the other animals do. And there's absolutely loads of them in
the vicinity, as Robotnik's secret base is currently located on Flicky
Island.
And it is in this base that Robotnik stands now, watching Sonic
through a camera Badnik. Sonic has noticed this, and smashes the Badnik.
In actual fact there was no point to that attack. It was only to prove
to Sonic he was still around and not giving up. He knows that he can
never defeat Sonic with mere ordinary Badniks. Which is why he is
constructing more Metallixes! Yes! MEtallix, the Knuckles version of
Mecha-Sonic. (Brit note - yes, we did call Mecha Sonic Metallix here,
but now their design has been changed so they look like Knuckles.)
At this point Emperor Ko-Door turns up with some soldiers and
tells Robotnik it is time to keep his half of the bargain. All through
Sonic's trial Robotnik was constantly reminded of this bargain, and it
seems he had agreed to deliver the Chaos Emeralds to Ko-Door by secretly
deploying the new Metallixes to fetch the Chaos Emeralds. But now
Robotnik's time has run out, and Ko-Door wants those Emeralds NOW. With
their power he hopes to take control of the other two Houses of Drakos.
Back to the story, it's not hard to find, heroes not just of the
body but of the mind. They crop up in all comics. And the two in
question, Sonic and Tails, have just finished fighting the Badniks when
they see the Floating Island. Just in case we've forgotten what the
Chaos Emeralds are, Tails comments on how amazing it is that they manage
to keep the Island afloat. To quote Sonic:
"The Chaos Emeralds are probably the greatest power source in
the galaxy!"
Oh dear. They have resorted to Archieism, calling the Super
Emeralds "CHAOS" Emeralds. Maybe Sega are trying to change their name?
Sonic gets a really bad feeling that something terrible is about
to happen.. But then he decides he should lighten up. Robotnik is gone
and Mobius is free again. From here, things can only get better...

So the stage is set. And quite nicely I might add. Next issue
expect something BIG. Then the issue after that, something MASSIVE.
We're gonna find out about the origin of the Chaos Emeralds, people!

SUPERSONIC: The Hunter & The Hunted

Supersonic, now roaming Mobius with no memories of his past, comes
across The Groovy Train, a famous coffee bar run by "Mystic Mog" Ebony.
An old woman named Pyjamas senses great evil, just as Supersonic walks
in. Ebony takes no notice, as 'Jams has meen doing this for ages and
always getting it wrong.
Supersonic tells Ebony, thus cunningly reminding the readers,
that he has no memory of who he is or where he comes from. Not even his
name. And Supersonic applies for a job.
Meanwhilst, in the alternate Universe inside the Special Zone,
Lord Sidewinder has sent Bio-Hazard, his massive metal bodyguard, to
find Supersonic so they can harness his power. And sure enough, he's
found him. Bio-Hazard begins pulling the Grpoovy Train apart, looking
for Supersonic. And he's drawn beautifully in the last frame.

DECAP ATTACK: Return Of The Pumpkins

In a particularly funny episode of Decap, (now only included for
comic relief and because it's getting to be so popular,) the castle is
overrun by pumpkins. The first page has to be seen to be believed. IT'S
HILARIOUS!
The pumpkins attack! And - gasp! They're sarcastic! Enough to
strike fear into any man's heart - any man that is, except one, who,
hair flapping in the breeze as he swings bravely through the castle
window, announces that this is a job for a PROFESSIONAL. Yes! It's...
dumm dadum-dum! KEVIN!
Yes! Kevin! From the Transylvanian Pest Control! They paint Head
green and disguise him as an apple, (fruit and veg are natural enemies)
and when he is attacked, the pumpkins are led up to the top of the
castle, where everyone waits dressed as various mixed fruit. The
pumpkins are forced to leap over the edge of the batlements, where they
land in a skip. Kevin traps them inside, and the battle is won.#

AMY & TEKNO: SpOOked

There's a haunted house, and scared civilians, and it's up to
the girls to sort it out. Running towards the castle, Amy exclaims:
"This is crazy! These folk need to chill out more!" to which Tekno
cries: "Yay! Another pun!"
I read that panel over several times and I still can't find the
pun to which she refers. Help, someone!
So anyway, they get into the house and it's crumbling around
them. There's a strange, sinister wailing coming from somewhere
upstairs. A ghost? No! It's Fabian Vane! He's using the house to
rehearse for his grand comeback gig. But his singing has weakened the
foundations, and they only just manage to escape as the house collapses,
destroying Vane's demo tapes, oh no.

And that's it!
