"Sonic Zone (2.62 Mb) written by Effeser project
A platformer with great bosses and graphics. Nice level variety & sound."
... Did anyone play this thing? It's a one level demo. I'd like to hope
there exists some decent homebrew sonics out there.
The best one ever. There are probably others, but none of them are nearly as
good.
Well RetroSonic is really good, and has that Sonic 1/Sonic 2 feel, but that
seems to have disappeared off the face of the internet.
...or something.

HOLY CRAP! Now that's what I'm talking about! I was just hoping for a nice
diversion, I didn't know that there was a whole sub-culture to this kind of
thing.

Just a warning, 90% of all fangames are pure crap. Check reviews before
downloading.

I dont recall ever finishing any, so no.
I started on several though.
About 4 years ago or so when I had a Mac, I released conversions of several
existing Fan games, and a screen saver, but that's it.
I did make a Sonic crackers style "engine test" once which was basicly a
room where you could run up the walls and the ceiling and stop on them and
not fall... Though I wrote that in basic and it ended up only getting about
5fps because the collision detection was so slow, so I gave up on that.
Last summer I released a small 'demo' (IE about half a screen was complete)
of a little Sonic in green hill engine thingie for GBA. You could only move
back and forward on the small amount of floor that was there, and jump. I
stopped working on that one too because it was a pain in the ass to re-do
the color palette each time I wanted to add a sprite to the "game".
I might end up starting on another fan game in the future, but it's likely
I'll never finish it. I dont annonce them when I do work on them, since
they're not likely to get finished.
That's a pretty damn big category.
