A-HEM. You, sir, have broadbandedly flamed an entire series of video games,
one-half of which I sincerely doubt that you have ever played. (Final Fantasy
II and III for NES in Japan, Final Fantasy V for SNES in Japan, and Final
Fantasy VIII, just released in Japan.) In addition, said series, along with
Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior, forms the foundation for well upwards of 90% of
all RPGs, the remainder accounted for by Legend of Zelda, producing action
RPGs, and Shining Force, producing war-sim RPGs. A Sonic and Knuckles RPG is
tentatively planned for the Dreamcast, and by insulting its progenitors you
have insulted it.
Further, you have offered no reasons for your opinion, merely that it is so
and, by implication, must be so in the hearts and minds of all right-thinking
people. Surely the games can't be entirely bad; the series has had enough
popular support in Japan and around the world to justify not one but seven
sequels to the original, and not only that but a remake of installments four
through six, enhanced with the same full-motion video as found in FFVII and
FFVIII. The music, which has given rise to two soundtracks already, is widely
regarded as being among the best in the genre, else why would Nobuo Uematsu
return time and again to score it? The graphics, which have never been a
selling point for RPGs until recent years, have improved markedly in the two
latest installments until they are nearly on par with those in pure action
games. Gameplay remains much the same as it was in the first version, but each
new edition brings an added twist to the formula. And the plot... when seen
unhampered by English translation gaffes and censoring, it is on par at times
with fantasy novels.
I'll be the first to admit that there are some points in the series which
aren't gleaming or even bright... the rather shrouded nature of the events in
the most recent English version, to name one, and the rather disappointing
recent trend in interchangability of the characters to name another. But
condemning it to the worst of the worst of all video games, everywhere, is a
disgrace to one of the oldest running RPGs in all of video games and a
disgrace to the entire RPG genre.

The commercials. They would just make me think "Wow, this is the best game
EVER!", then i actually played it to se what a disappointing game it was. The
graphics were some of the best at the time, but far from impressive, and the
characters were just too small.
And how do you even know that FF7 has any influence on the S&K RPG?

It is, but t was far too easy. I prefer a game with a little challange myself,
but that's just me. I'm sure it would be nice and hard for little 5 year olds
like yourself.
