Has anyone watched this yet? Sailor Moon fans should love it since it
has so many themes in common. It's not as good (I mean, what *could*
be as good as Sailor Moon), but it does have some cute romantic
scenes. And once again, we have the Techno Girls to thank for
providing it to us.

I've seen the Techno Girls eps as well as the rest of the series raw--it's
an excellent series. :) I actually found the animation to be better (and
more consistent) than that of Sailor Moon, and Momoko and Yousuke's romance
held my interest the entire time (unlike Usagi and Mamoru's.) When the
first kiss finally came, I cried. Stick with it until the end, you won't be
sorry. :)

P.S. I have some screensnaps from a Wedding Peach music video and some OAV
op/ed shots on my page www.angelfire.com/ns/haruka in the Library section,
but be warned--some of the op/ed shots contain yuri scenes (I've also got
them saved large-size for cool wallpaper if anyone wants them.)

<snip>

There are only 8 episodes of it that have been fansubbed. I have only seen
the 1st four, but I plan on getting the other four. If you like the Sailor
Moon transformations you will love the Wedding Peach ones. The show is
rather "sweet", very romantic, as would be expected from "Wedding Peach".
Check out the music. The group Furil sings the songs for the 3 angels. My
favorite is "Lucky & Happy" which is really not part of the anime but part
of the intro that the Techno Girls provide.

<looks down at sig> Yep, I love Wedding Peach. ^_^ Things don't
really start to get interesting until about twelve eps into the
series. And it's even better when Scarlet shows up (IMO, of course).
The background plot is also really interesting. The manga is a little
bit different in character designs and plot, but very good as well.

I'm going to reiterate this since all I see is praise. A year ago, I really
really wanted to watch WP. I asked my club pres about it and he said, "I
usually enjoy magical girl shows but there's something about Wedding Peach
that I couldn't get into..." So with that, I wasn't very interested in the
series anymore.

My friend had the fansubs later on and told me that he showed his friend WP.
After that, his friend said he'll never watch another magical girl show ever
again.

Eventually I requested the fansubs myself, only out of curiosity. "How bad
could it be!?" I thought. So I watched the first 8 eps and my thoughts
were: "It's not the worst thing I've seen, but I definitely don't like it."
I don't hate it either btw, but it goes on the bottom of list in terms of
magical girl shows I've seen.

Positives are: Cute char designs(same char designer as SM); Furil, the
seiyuu group, is one of the best seiyuu groups out there. I love their
harmonies.

Negatives are: Lacks a plot; Tries to be funny, but you end up laughing
because it's soooo stupid and not funny.(kinda like old Power Rangers); and
it's so girly that I really can't imagine even girls liking it.

So just be warned. WP's usually the most disliked of the more popular
magical girl shows.

You're living in the UK? Then you have the same problem with this $%§@&$ NTSC,
right? Even if we could find someone who would ship the tapes over here, it
would still be pretty much useless since it's no PAL ^_^;;

You only saw eight episodes? This is mahou shoujo. Generally, they take about
twelve episodes to really get going. Trust me, there is a plot. Though my
favorite arc, by far, is the Igunisu arc. Sigh. Truly, he was the best demon
in the show.

Just finished watching eps 1-8 (fansubbed). My opinion:
Wedding Peach = Sailor Moon "Lite". Twice the silliness,
half the angst. Naturally I loved it.

I espicially liked Jama-pi, the little demon-critter.
Anyone know where I could get a Jama-pi plushie to
add to my maho-shoujo mascot collection?

I know that, but that really only refers to plot. I've seen many magical
girl shows. Ririka has no plot for 10 eps, but it was still cute(esp.
Anna and Karin). Akazuki Cha-cha has no plot for the 8 eps I saw, but it
was still somewhat enjoyable. Mahou no Stage Fancy Lala and Hime-chan no
RIBON were great from episode 1. Then again, I've seen a bunch of Card
Captor Sakura and still think it's pretty crappy...

But point is: WP has this stupidity factor that'll grate on you. It may
have a good storyline later on, I wouldn't doubt it. But if certain
factors about the show bother you now, they're sure to bother you later...
Like I said, it's like old Power Rangers. It's so corny and stupid. But
you laugh anyway, because it's corny and stupid.

Sigh. It's not fair to compare eight episodes with an ENTIRE series. After
watching only the first eight episodes of Sailormoon (the first season) can
you possibly guess the amount of angst that'd be in the future episodes?

You mean like somebody might be bothered about he fact that Usagi's a whiny
crybaby who runs away instead of fighting in the earlier episodes? Since
that's true, by your logic, I should assume that's true for all the episodes,
ne?

For God's sake, if you're going to compare the first eight episodes of Wedding
Peach with Sailormoon, compare them with ONLY the first eight episodes of
Sailormoon. NOTHING else! Otherwise, your analogy is false and improper.

This is unrelated but it is interesting how much more competant Momoko seems
than Usagi in the early episodes. In the 2nd epsiode of Sailor Moon, she forgets
her transformation words and in the 2nd episode of Wedding Peach, she manages to
fool the demons by using a fake ring

To tell you the truth, I've never seen all of Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon.
It DID in fact, grate on me because it was extremely boring. I saw the
key eps of course(well, dubbed) but even though my friend recorded it all,
I didn't exactly feel like watching them.

But to get back to your point, it's not the characters. I like all three
of them... Momo-p, Hinagiku + Yuri. They're cool, even though they're
more or less your "stock character". It's not the story, because as we
both agree, mahou shoujo doesn't start until later eps.

It's... I dunno. I can't say much more than "the way it's done". The
humor is pretty awful. I mean, when you see something that they intend
for you to laugh at, and then you don't... (repeat 10x per episode), after
awhile you really feel bad for the anime. It's a kid show and if I was
still a kid, I'd probably find it amusing. But I'm just saying,
humor-wise, it's not my cup of tea. Then there's the corniness factor.
Ai no WEIBU... (Love waves)... after awhile it was really ridiculous.
True, not like Nurse Angel's medical theme was that special either but ...

I dunno. I can't remember specific examples. I'm not a big fan of Jamapi
either. I can rewatch WP again if you want me to point out specifics but
it'll have to wait a week or so when I go back home.

But you know... I'm not here bashing WP just to bash it. I said in my
first post that I don't hate it, but there are things about it that push
my tolerance to the limits. Fact: my anime secretary says he usually
likes mahou shoujo, but something about WP bugged him. Fact: my friend
showed his friend WP and that friend swore off magical girl shows for
life. Fact: WP's still on the bottom of my Magical Girl rating list
because it bugs me more than the others.

I'm not saying WP is trash, but certain people don't like it. I was one
of those who really *really* wanted to see it when I heard about it. I
liked the character designs and if anything, Furil rules. But having seen
some of it, I can understand why some people can't stand it, but I have no
doubt that it gets a lot better. But I will still stand by my statement
that it's so girly that even girls may not like it.

Watching raw episodes is one of the sacrifices of being an anime fan.
I mean, everything can't be handed to you in a nice neat English
package. Besides, it's not that bad, and it really helps you learn the
language (it forces you to).

If you're going to get into Wedding Peach and really appreciate it, you
*have* to get the show raw. I suppose you could wait another ten years
until all the eps are subbed, but that would be sort of pointless,
especially if you're going to call yourself a Wedding Peach fan. It's
like that for a lot of anime, especially mahou shoujo. Look at a
show like Majokko Megu-chan which hasn't been subbed at all. Yes,
sacrifices must be made or else we'd be missing *a lot* of good stuff.

The last sentence is bunk. I mean really, when I wacth something raw,it sounds
like gibberish with me understanding like two words out of every 100. No
matter how many times I wacth say..Idol Densetsu Eriko,my comperhension of the
words themselves does not improve, why? becuase I have no guidance.

WP is nice but translation helps me apperciate shows more. Sometimes what theya
say is relivent to the plot...

I only wacth raw if it is at greatest need. Waiting a bit for WP subbed isn't
that bad since I like to be able to comperhend a show. Also,WP has too much
talking to wacth raw. I'd be bored out of my mind. To be wacthed raw and really
enjoy it,the show most have more action than talking.

Unfortunately, eight episodes are all I have to go on, here.
Watching untranslated anime doesn't do much for me. In my
travels overseas I've seen anime on TV translated into things
like Italian or Arabic. It's fun to watch (you haven't truly
appreciated SM until you see Sailor Chibi-Moon wave the Twinkle
Bell about and shout, "Magica Campana di Chibi-Moon!") but I
really can't get the plot that way, much less pick up on
subtilties like angst.

Still, I'll acknowledge that WP may become more "serious" in
later episodes; that seems to be the rule for magical girl
shows. Actually, considering how exaggerated the silliness
factor is in WP, I could see it having an equally exaggerated
angst factor and become a real hard-core tear-jerker. We need
to get the rest of this series fansubbed, no doubt about it!
