First, a little background...
The original Sailor Moon manga was created by Naoko Takeuchi and
serialized in the Japanese magazine, Nakayoshi, on February 1992.
The TV series started immediately after the manga was published and
both ran concurrently until early 1997.
The English dub of the anime first aired in North America in 1995 and
the English release of the manga started in 1997. In fact, this
newsgroup was created in response to the NA debut of the anime in
1995.
I still remember the excitement in 1996 when the news got out on the
newsgroup that a new company called Mixxzine would be publishing
Sailor Moon in a bi-monthly manga edition that was going to be
formatted like the original Japanese phone book manga style. It would
carry four stories. Sailor Moon and Magic Knight Rayearth for the
shoujo side and Ice Blade and Parasyte for the shounen side. (Little
side note... the final chapter of Parasyte was finally released in
English last month, more then ten years after its English premiere)
In the nature of the 200 days of Sailor Moon and the 51 days of PGSM,
This will be a 52 days of BSSM series of threads. We will read a
chapter a day of the original Sailor Moon manga (For me, I will be
using the English translation by Tokyopop/Mixxzine with maybe a peek
at the original Japanese) and then discuss it here. The threads will
be named "52 Days of BSSM - Act ##" with the ## replaced with the
chapter number.
Having said that, due to recent personal circumstances, I may not be
able to actually post one act a day. So a couple of days might pass
between each act. However, I will do my best to post my thoughts on
all 52 acts over the next couple of months.
Since I have only the original Mixxzine and Japanese translations, I
will not be addressing the updated re-release of the Japanese manga
that was published in 2003 to coincide with the live-action Pretty
Guardian Sailor Moon. However, it would be great if anyone out there
had info on that new release.
My next thread will start with Act 1.
Let us begin.
