I really hope there is someone left to read this.

I still check afs-m once in a while and it is pretty evident that this
newsgroup is barely existing. I don't see it ever reviving even if
there is somehow a renewed interest in Sailor Moon.

However, there is one thing that I've long wanted to do. Although I've
been a Sailor Moon fan for almost 15 years, I have never read the
manga all the way though, start to finish. If it is not too late, I
want to finally read the manga and I want to do it here.

In the nature of the 200 days of Sailor Moon and the 51 days of PGSM,
I want to do a 52 days of BSSM series of threads. We would read a
chapter a day of the original Sailor Moon manga (Well, for me it would
be the English translation) and then discuss it here. The threads
would be named "52 Days of BSSM - Act ##" with the ## replaced with
the chapter number.

If there is enough interest, we will start on Sunday, November 1st. I
am waiting that long because I want to leave this notice posted for
several weeks for those folks who might only check in once in a while
to give them a chance to get involved.

I see this event as the last ever project to take place here. It would
be nice if this last hurrah could take us back to the roots, back to
the original manga that started it all.

Please post your comments. Let us know if you wish to read and
contribute or even if you just want to only read along.

I do not have the manga, but have read one or two volumes some years ago,
it would be interesting on reading your reviews.

I just read all of it on line a few months ago. I would be interested in
your comments.

If there is new interesting material, who knows ? those of us who were
already old farts when it came out, for instance.

Now, that's surprising. I did read the manga when it came out. Heck, I even
used it to learn a bit of japanese, since it is very easy to read, being aimed
square at fairly young girls.

Oh well, it's a good ride, though a bit too shoujou for my taste. Get ready
for a lot of twists compared to the anime.

I'm not sure what happened. I collected all of the manga starting with
the very first VIP issue of Mixxzine, though the individual issues
under Mixxzine's Chix Comix label and finally with the serialization
in Mixxzine's Smile magazine. I know I started to read it, but maybe I
stopped after a while. Or maybe after almost 10 years I just don't
remember reading it. But I'm now ready to read it again and hopefully
get more out of it, just like I got more out of the anime during the
"days of..." projects.

I'm looking forward to it.

Good luck. I don't have my USENET access or Sailor Moon manga, but
it's nice to know the group will go out on a high note.

Thanks Chris. I'm hoping that maybe a few more folks could join up,
but I'm pretty sure that I will do this regardless.

I was going to suggest that those without the manga follow along by
reading the Wikimoon entries, but I see that they have only the first
four acts entered and that was two years ago.

Ah well, I'll just have to see how it goes.

Actually I remembered that I do have some of the manga -- way, way
back in 1996 when I first started watching Sailor Moon, a friend of my
father's went to Japan and brought back some of the manga for me.
I've never actually read it, though; by the time I was good enough at
Japanese to actually read it I had kind of forgotten about it. So I
have volume 1, and volumes 7-10 (the entire S series). I may
participate in some of this, although I may not have time to read 1
act a day in real time. Maybe I'll just read S in November and post
when you get there.

That would be great!

As I considered this project, I ran into a similar resource problem as
you. I looked into my stash of Sailor Moon stuff to see what I had,
expecting to find the Mixxzine trade books. I found that I had NONE
and then remembered that I had given all of them away at the last
afs-m party at A-Kon years ago as prizes. Fortunately, I have all the
original Mixxzine individual issues, so I can work from them. I also
have all the original Japanese manga (except for volume #4 for some
reason).

I looked on eBay and so forth to see if I could simply purchase the
missing manga and found that the original Mixxzine issues are selling
for a fortune. I guess that's what happens when something has been out
of print for 10 years.

I'd like to include the side stories as well, but I don't have access
to those at all.

If enough people decide to participate I'll join in as well,
especially if said people are those I recognize. The Sailor Moon manga
is long out of print in the US, so it wouldn't really be going against
"fansub" etiquette of years past to obtain scans of the manga.

I really do miss the little group that we used to have on here and
would love to see a mini-reunion of sorts. Phoenix did you stay in
touch with any of the "oldies"?

There is one user I'd love to be able to see what she is doing now and
that is Trixie678, as I loved her diary fanfics and always wondered if
she ever pursued writing professionally.

I was thinking the same. Even getting the used editions now is pretty
tough so what would be the harm?

It sure was a lot of fun. No, I've not really stayed in touch.
Occasionally one of the old crowd will email me via my web page and
we'll chat about old times for a bit. I was kind of hoping that Rick
or Sunnie would stop by as they were part of the previous 'days of...'
threads.

Is that the Trixie to whom we gave all these weapons, gifts, Chibiusa
clones and some sort of pocket dimension to keep them all in so very
many years ago? If so, I would also like to know as well. I really
enjoyed those conversations.

It's possible, but she is the one that did those "Diaries" fanfics.

Here is one she did on Ami-chan:

Ah yes, that is indeed the one and only Trixie. And now I remember
those "Diaries" fanfics as well. She was a wonderful contributor to
this group. I'm not sure how it began, but people started giving her
gifts until she had this huge on-line arsenal. You might try searching
for "arsenal" under alt.fan.sailor-moon to find all sorts of
references. Funny, I was looking at the dates and that took place a
little over 10 years ago... 10 years, my gosh. What a staggering
amount of time has passed since those Halcyon days of afs-m.

Hello!
Sad that this group is gone. I was active around 97-99 and mostly
kept to myself. I tried to join in OW! but was really bad at it.

Phoenix I checked your page to see the afsm party pics. I made it to
the 1st one and spotted myself in a few of the them. Wow that was so
long ago. I can still remember driving all the way there with the
broken hand in a cast, took a full 24 hours of straight driving to get
there. I think I talked to about two people there that's just the way
I am, way too shy and not good at approaching people I don't know.
All the people that I really talked to in OW! all came the second year
so just my luck I couldn't make it then.

Good to see there are still some people around here.
