Toxic algae warnings at two Nebraska lakes
The State of Nebraska has issued health alerts for toxic blue-green algae
at Fremont Lake No. 20 and Carter Lake in Omaha.
These are the only two lakes among 37 that were sampled this week that
exceeded the state's health alert threshold.
Sampling at Nebraska lakes for toxic algae began this week and will
continue through the end of September.
Signs will be posted at the lakes to advise the public to use caution, and
the swimming beaches at the Fremont lake will be closed for the duration of
the health alert.
Recreational boating and fishing are permitted at the lakes as long as the
public makes sure to avoid situations that could involve ingestion of
water.
