You got one thing wrong, one thing right, and a third thing partially
right.
The part you got wrong:
", it's easy to make a republic ... work for 1,700 years.
Everyone's... the same language and color too.
If you had read James Madison in "The Federalist Papers" you would
have found that the reason for a republic is to protect the minority
from tyranny of the majority. It is a democracy that will work well
when " Everyone's like family - and the same language and color too."
The part you got right:
"multiply the population 10 thousandfold "
Once again, if you had read "The Federalist Papers", you would have
found that our FEDERAL government was to be a very minor part of the
governance and was to be insignificant until it was needed in time of
war. The intent of our country was that the governance was to take
place at the state and local level where " Everyone's like family "
The part you got partially right:
" It's a republic, and yet its still finding itself voting for
largesse from the public treasury. Oops, the US is doomed according
to Tocqueville. "
ONLY the Representatives were supposed to be elected by the PEOPLE;
that is why they are called "Representatives". The President and the
Senators were supposed to be elected by the States to protect
"States' Powers"; Once again, if you had read "The Federalist
Papers", there was a concern by the Anti-Federalists that the Federal
Government would usurp power from the States. The Federalist Papers
answered this concern by stating, How can the Federal Government usurp
power from the States? The Federal powers are defined and limited.
The only way the Federal government can gain power is if the States
gave away their power to the Federal Government, and why would they do
that? (paraphrased because I don't want to waste time looking for the
exact passage for an idiot who will ague that it is wrong)
The way that the Federal government has USURPED power is by the States
giving the power of the States' to the people. The worst Amendment
in the Constitution is the 17th Amendment that made the election of
the Senate by the Will of the People, the "will of the masses", the
tyranny of the majority
I don't think the United States is doomed. It will simply become an
also-ran just as England transformed from the world leader to an also-
ran. That will happen when China's GDP exceeds the US and when there
are only 2 workers supporting each retiree (in 2033)
