North Carolina 2-year-old puts dad's unattended gun in his mouth and fires

By David Edwards
Monday, May 20, 2013 9:55 EDT

A 2-year-old boy in North Carolina is expected to survive after shooting
himself with his father's gun over the weekend.

Randolph County deputies said that the toddler found the handgun in his
parents' room at their home just outside Asheboro around 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The boy put the gun in his mouth and fired it.

According to WGHP, the boy was listed in critical condition Brenner Children's
Hospital in Winston-Salem on Sunday, but was expected to live.

"The bullet missed all the vital arteries there in the neck in the head and
also missed the spinal cords, so I said it's a miracle the child is still
with us," Randolph County Sheriff's Office Captain Derrick Hill explained to
WGHP.

A neighbor told the station that "the good Lord was looking after him."

The sheriff's and district attorney's offices were considering whether to
charge the parents with leaving the firearm unattended
=================================
Where was the good lord to prevent this from happening?

"Consider a 1998 study in the "Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery"
that found that every time a gun was used in a house in a self defense or
legally justifiable shooting there were four unintentional shootings , seven
criminal assaults, or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides"
from Scientific American May 2013

"We've got to stop being the stupid party,"
the Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal explained.
"It's time for a new Republican Party that talks like adults.

"Facts." John Adams argued "are stubborn things,
and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations,
or of the dictates of our passion, they cannot
alter the state of facts and evidence.

This is funny. Why wasn't the good Lord looking after the kid by
stopping him from pulling the trigger? It sure would've saved
everybody a lot of grief and avoidable hospital expenses, time-,
energy- and money-wise, for everyone involved. But the good Lord
always seems to show up when it's too late. I don't get that.

That's the wrong HEAD LINE....

Here I'll fix it.

"Unattended North Carolina 2-year-old puts gun in his mouth and fires"

The problem is NOT the gun or the electric wires or the water in the
toilet or tub, or marbles or dog food or the cars drive by out side or
strings and ropes or cleaners....

It's parental.

Not according to Sid. After banning guns, he will get to your list by
banning wires, toilets, tubs, marbles, dog food, cars, strings, ropes,
cleaners...and more.

Ever think that there wouldn't be any problem at all if there was no
gun? No, because boy, you're stupid.

The difference which escapes the feeble right wingnut mind is that
guns are primarily designed to injure, maim and/or kill, nothing less
or more than that. None of those other things have that as a basis
for their existence.

See if you can figure it out yourself,
I don't want to be seen as gun grabber from the moron that owns the gun.

# The difference which escapes the feeble right wingnut mind is that
# guns are primarily designed to injure, maim and/or kill, nothing less
# or more than that. None of those other things have that as a basis
# for their existence.

And that makes them a tool to protect the weak from the strong.
It provides a way to protect people from an overbearing government.
It provides a way for those who want, to find food for the price of a
cartridge.

The best thing about guns is that is pisses off the pussies who have
hopolphobia.

You mean the positives that resulted in that kid practically blowing
off his own head, and not the only kid to do so. Not to mention that
two-thirds of gun deaths are due to suicides. Seems to me you'd have
much fewer such deaths from that alone if you didn't make it so easy
for people to kill themselves - the gun being the favorite weapon of
suicide choice. That kind of positives in the real world?

Accidents happen. Eliminating guns would only change suicide methods.
You are focusing on the implement. And if this one disappears, other
implements will be used.

Guns save children by feeding them and protecting them when the parents
act like parents.....

The problem is Liberals don't hold the correct people responsible, and
that causes more children to die in all manner of deaths.

Bullshit.
Accidents are preventable.
Humans with brain have proved it over and over again.

This was preventable if gun nuts cared enough.
Mr. Beam you are a callus ignorant uneducated idiot.

If we locked them up and forced drugs down their throat, we might save
them or even save you.... but the constitution directs government to
protect the RIGHTS of them and you.

There is NO predicting a crime or conviction of a non crime.

until they are convicted of breaking a law they are free and have rights.

*Rumination*
#3.0.1 - Liberals seem to think *the only gun owners* with any rights
are the criminals.....

Since you live under a rock, you probably are not aware that commercial
airliners DO crash.
Some accidents are preventable, and others happen.

At any rate, you don't solve commercial airline crashes by eliminating
airlines.

And yet MY children never shot themselves....

and no body's gun ever shot my 2 year old.

Because I place the responsibility and the blame on the one who deserve
it, the "ones" who are responsible for my child's safety.

The fact you blame everyone else and try to make everyone else but
"government and you" responsible for your decisions is the actual ROOT
of the problem.

It's NOT the NRA or other gun owners responsibility, its the people and
government laws that Liberals use to try to deny their responsibility
that are the problem.

> Mr. Beam you are a callus ignorant uneducated idiot.

Which means NOTHING to the single FACT that I am correct, yet again.

I may or may NOT be ignorant, callus, and or an idiot... but I am
definitely educated well enough to see how much your education is lacking.
